Can you recommend a family friendly holiday in the sun?

Hello
We normally do camping holidays but this year we fancy taking it easy and staying in a hotel/villa in maybe France, Spain or the Canary Islands for a relaxing holiday with pool for the children.
We would prefer self catering.
I've heard horror stories about booking a family holiday and turning up to find it totally child unfriendly and filled with lager louts.
So thought it would be a good idea to hear your experiences and suggestions.
Thank you

What about Italy? Would you be interested in Tuscany?

Rosbo · 28/03/2008 22:21

We've gone on loads of holidays with villas and pools which are self catering!

Do you want some links??

Well, here is our favourite holiday destination.

It is about an hour away from Florence, in the hills of Tuscany.

Very family friendly. The pool at the top part of the campsite is great for smaller children as it is only knee deep.

Several restaurants onsite and a pretty decent supermarket.

Town of Figline is about 5 mins drive away with supermarket etc.

We stayed in a bungalow, but the mobile homes looked good too. If you book direct with the campsite it is often cheaper than going through Eurocamp or whoever.

The little train goes from the top campsite to the bottom campsite all day and down to the village several times a day.

here

If you click on Accommodation, you get a list. Click on to your favoured accommodation and you get prices.

We had a 4-6 person bungalow, with my parents and our 2 DCs. It was a bit cramped though. Would be fine for 4 people. Handy having 2 bathrooms. The bungalows are quite basic. They are in the old part of the campsite, near the old restaurant, swimming pool (not the fab knee deep pool) and play area.

The other part of the campsite (up the hill a bit near Villa Norcenni) is probably better for smaller children. Or indeed the Villa itself. The terrace at the villa is used by the wine bar, which was lovely.

You can travel up and down with the little train, but it was a bit of a hassle for us as DS still slept at lunchtime.

We have been to this campsite 3 times in the past 15 years, the last time with children and it is one of the best places I have been to.

Sorry for being thick - is that 69 euros a night?

MiMao · 29/03/2008 22:11

that is so weird

i clicked on Accommodation and it brings up the list, when i move the mouse over the options it highlights them but nothing happens when i select.

i just wanted to see the prices for the villas like you suggest are better for small children and closer to the bar etc.

The Villa

I have had a problem before, that I cannot access a foreign website. I had to change something on my internet settings, but I cannot remember what.

The villa is set a bit apart from the mobile homes, but within a couple of minutes walk. The wine bar was always pretty quiet when we were there. I can remember sitting on the terrace under a full moon gazing out at the tuscan hills. We liked the fact that you have the fun of a resort without the drunken louts.

Just incase you want to have a look at the mobile homes: cool and elle.

Not sure where they are on the site.

Just thought, check out the Eurocamp site. The pound is quite low at the moment against the Euro, so you might find you get a better deal through a UK tour operator. Eurocamp is there, and there was another operator. Will ask my mum if she remembers.

Kindersurprise · 29/03/2008 22:39

Check out keycamp

eurocamp

suncamp

Ooooh, I feel like booking again for this year.

DD is still asking to go back there 2 years later.

girasole · 31/03/2008 19:32

Hi, just butting in to say that we stayed at Norcenni Girasole last year and would agree it's very lovely.

Vacansoleil have a "village" of mobile homes up at the top of the site near the fab new pool complex and it looks lovely up there. They are very cheap compared to Eurocamp, Keycamp etc.

We stayed with Canvas at the very bottom of the site, it was an ok location. We walked past the bungalows every day, I thought they were in a nice spot. Very close to all the facilities but still quiet.

I have seen some not very complimentary reviews of the apartments in the Villa itself. I don't think they are particularly luxurious.

TraceyAcabanes · 02/04/2008 14:22

Hi, have a look at my website and let me know if you want to know more - I'm also a mum and have made it completely child friendly

TraceyAcabanes · 02/04/2008 14:23

oops, website is www.acabanes.co.uk
