First holiday abroad with just DD - where to go?

Hi,

I'm currently saving like mad to be able to afford to take my DD on holiday abroad next year.
We've been twice before with friends (once was a wedding and the other my friend split with her partner so he and his child didn't go and we took their places)

I'm thinking Ibiza, Majorca maybe Tenerife?
DD will be 11 by then so it'll be the summer hols before she starts secondary school.
She loves swimming and any pool slides etc - can anyone recommend somewhere all inclusive, with water slides etc and evening entertainment?

Thank you

I'd go for Majorca it's a beautiful island and it's a shorter flight than Tenerife.

You haven't said your budget, but I always use Jet2 holidays and never had a bad holiday with them. We stayed at Fergus Club Europa in Paguera Majorca last year, with Magnus upgrade. It was a wonderful holiday, near really beautiful beaches and very family friendly. It had a few waterslides and a small teen club, but you might want a bigger resort for an 11yr old. I see the same company (Fergus) have just taken over a bigger hotel with waterpark in Magaluf.

The Canaries are great outside of summer but they're just off the coast of Africa, so the temperatures can go bonkers in July. The Med as a whole is already pretty warm.

I second the PP's suggestion of Mallorca. The hotels with major water slides tend to be at premium prices for families (which I suppose is sort of obvious), but there are several day-ticket water parks as well. The new Fergus in Magaluf promises to be amazing but it isn't open yet. (Don't be put off by the "Shagaluf" tropes, it's not an unspoiled fishing village à la Shirley Valentine but it's not Gormorrah 24/7 either.)

I recommend Tenerife generally as somewhere good to go with older kids. We found Mallorca fairly boring. Tenerife has Siam Park and lots of excursion options e.g. stargazing on Teide, whale watching, water sports. Since loads of operators offer holidays there it's possible to get a decent deal.

I spoke to a single mum with 3 older kids and they'd stayed here for years: hotelelduque.com/en/

@samarrange the Canaries are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean so actually tend to be hot (high twenties) but not insanely so. I barely survived Italy at around the same time of year.

Thank you both! I shall have a look - I'd looked at the Fergus on Jet2 but didn't know about the one in Magaluf will take a look at that too!

I should have mentioned I am also a single parent so if anyone knows of any good deals or who to book with that would be great x

Sometimes though Mallorca hotter than Tenerife in July - I've been the last 2 years early July and was keeping an eye on temperatures.

Iberostars are good

The all inclusive in Mallorca in some places is only alcohol with meals - not saying you want to drink all day but many like a cocktail by the pool

Jet2 is stress free ime

Have a lovely time

Mallorca or Tenerife.

I've visited Mallorca with ds numerous times and our favourite place was Santa Ponsa. We visited the water park, go ape type place and it's a lovely beach.

I lived in Tenerife and he was born there! Loads to do with children including the Siam park, Lori park and Mount Teide.

Also look at Torreblanca/ Feungirola. We have visited there loads too and done Bioparc and water park and gone to Malaga by train.

That's only in parts of a couple of the towns with the worst reputations for rowdiness, and it will probably be abolished soon. That said, it does currently cover the Fergus Magaluf, which I suggested earlier, from its time previously as a "lads on a bender" hotel.

There are a few good waterslide hotels in Sa Coma too, and that's well away from any restrictions.

Playa de Palma is a nice resort in areas and has the current rules re all inclusive due to proximity to Arenal which seems to be full of Germans on lads holidays. I have had a few lovely holidays there and v handy for trips to Palma which is beautiful.

I took dd to Zante when she was that age. All inclusive, water slides. We had a great time.
