Going on holiday with grown up children?

We are going on a trip to a remote part of the world with our daughter and her boyfriend, they're both 28. We are all paying our own way. The only benefit will be that I speak the local language so that helps, and her boyfriend is doing a lot of the planning (he likes it).

A friend commented that it is strange to travel with grown up children, they should do their own thing.

I think it depends on the family, we all sometimes do our own thing, but also do things together, and we have 6 adult children!

We have an annual trip with dc 29 and 34 and teens. Assume this always to be the case....

I always get invited on holiday with my parents I'm 32 ... love to spend time with them so I always go. It's not strange

You can do both. I LOVE going on holiday with my adult sons. My DH isn’t a traveller so he is happy to stay at home.

From my pov there are lots of practical advantages. They can be seen from a distance and can get bags from overhead lockers.

They are both very confident and good at communicating. And we all enjoy each other’s company. Of course they do other hols ( as do I and DH).

I'm 49 and still holiday regularly with my parents.

Each family should do what's right god them.

Sounds brilliant. If for any reason it doesn't work you part company for a few days and meet again at the airport!

My daughter and I were in Thailand at the same time for a few months, we didn't travel together but we met up several times in our individual travels. Really good. Even had the same mishaps!

I think it's strange to think it's strange - and I don't holiday with my parents.

If you all get on, enjoy spending time together and no one is taking the piss financially, why would you not do it?!

We have an annual trip with the DC (in their 30s) and partners, and have done since they were teens. Not weird.

AlliumFairy · 30/03/2024 17:47

Adult DC came abroad with us until they were early 20s and we still have a family trip every year in the UK which now includes their partners. We pay for everything although they always offer.

I travel with my daughter (50) every year. We’ve been to USA several times, India twice and Antarctica We travel very well together and enjoy each other’s company. Some people do make comments about it but I think they are just jealous that we get on so well.

I go away on holiday with my parents at least twice a year.
