I love the idea of visiting Singapore. Have you been? How long did you stay for? Flights seem quite reasonably priced. Is it somewhere you would go for five nights?

Been several times now! Love it, so much to see and do, very very safe. Not too expensive and public transport is cheap. Hotels can be pricy but there's loads of choice. Also easy to walk around!

China town is a bit commercial but Little India and the Arabic area are fabulous. Don't rate Orchard Road which is the main shopping street, nothing special, you could be anywhere.

Would go in a heartbeat!

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 29/03/2024 18:28

Hijacking as was thinking same:

can I ask, where else would you combine with as a multi centre? Have looked at Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi as possibles

mitogoshi · 29/03/2024 18:29

It's a long flight for 5 days! We are planning on going on the way to Australia

Movinghouseatlast · 29/03/2024 18:29

I went for 4 nights, 2 of them I went to Bintan Island on the ferry and lay by a pool.

Singapore is interesting culturally. On one hand it's like being in a giant City of London on the other it's like being in China! The different sides co exist, you turn a corner next to a gleaming skyscraper and see a temple or food market. The food is either very traditional or very European.

It depends what you want from a holiday. I wouldn't go again though I'm glad I've been, but I'm more of a beach holiday person.

Spent two weeks there in February. I love Singapore.

My 12 year old loved the Art Science museum and visiting WW2 sites - Fort Siloso and Fort Canning/Battlebox. He wasn’t too enthused by the Gardens by the Bay but liked the Supertree light show.

The MRT makes it so easy to get around and most places are air conditioned, which is great when it’s 30 with 80% humidity.

We stayed at Marina Bay Sands for two nights during our trip. Done it once. Won’t do it again. If you want to watch Spectra, do it from right outside the MBS. You don’t see all of the effects from anywhere else.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 29/03/2024 18:40

There are beaches on Sentosa island but it isn’t a tropical view - you’re looking at hundreds of ships at anchor. Tons of fun stuff on Sentosa - Universal Studios, Skyline luge (so much fun we visited twice), indoor karting and indoor skydiving etc.

Great holiday but combined with a trip to Malaysia. 3,4 days is plenty for Singapore.

biedrona · 29/03/2024 19:08

Chiangi airport gardens is a gem

thehurtingheart · 29/03/2024 19:45

Loved it, went for five days before travelling onwards. Price wise it can be a pretty expensive city but no worse than other big cities like London. Lots to see and do, very clean city and very easy to get around. Would 100% recommend!

S72 · 29/03/2024 19:51

We enjoyed it - stayed for 4 or 5 nights on a stopover when my DS was 7 or 8. Activites i can recall - waterpark, luge, Universal Studios, Gardens by the Bay, Little India - lots of walking and exploring.

kateandsam · 29/03/2024 19:59

We with teenagers last summer as a transit onwards to Borneo. It was an amazing holiday. We all enjoyed Singapore much more than expected. We were there for 4 nights but could have added another couple.

RadRad · 29/03/2024 20:05

Loved Singapore, I visited from Indonesia for 2 nights and went to Siem Reap from there, it was a 2 hour flight so you could possibly do that, although I would consider going for a full week at least. SGP is a modern, foodie hub, often visited as a twin centre.

Pandaandpurple · 29/03/2024 20:10

We’ve been a couple of times. Once for honeymoon (9 nights), then for 8 nights coinciding with the Grand Prix. We found tonnes to do on both trips, and I agree with pp that the big city/asian traditional atmosphere juxtaposition is great. We took one day to go out to pulau ubin on the ferry, and hired bikes while we were there. The last “traditional” part of Singapore apparently, and we saw so much wildlife there - it was magical.

ShanghaiDiva · 29/03/2024 20:13

Have been many times. Recommend botanical gardens, gardens by the bay, night safari, little India, raffles hotel..lots to do and easy to get around with metro and bus. Food is fabulous.
Am not keen on KL. Easy to combine Singapore with Indonesia - Bali or Java?

Tinytigertail · 29/03/2024 20:15

I find Singapore a bit bland. It's fun for a day or two, but, in my opinion , not a destination in and of itself. Perhaps as a few days stop over or combined it with a trip to Malay peninsula.

Kitkat1523 · 29/03/2024 20:17

Loved it….very safe….very clean…..lots of old and new to see….wouldn’t go all that way just for Singapore though….it’s a long flight for 5 nights…..we stopped off for 4 nights on the way to Australia….just a nice amount of time

MuggedByReality · 29/03/2024 20:18

Fantastic food. Amazing shopping, if that’s your thing. Very clean & safe. Great public transport. Bloody awful climate. Really it’s far too hot & humid for doing city break stuff, so plan plenty of air-conditioned breaks.

Agree completely with @Kitkat1523 Singapore is too far & has too much of a time difference just for a city break. Unless it’s for the Grand Prix, obv. It makes a fantastic stopover, though. That’s how we did it.

Nelliemellie · 29/03/2024 20:26

We went there in 2017 and stayed there for 3 nights at marina bay sands, great city and would have loved to stay longer but on route to Tokyo which is a shorter flight. Little India China town has loads of good shops/food. You can get into trouble by dropping litter.

savethatkitty · 29/03/2024 20:30

Love Singapore! Have been solo, as a poor backpacker & have been with the husband & kids several times. It's clean, easy to get around, lots to see & do, caters for a huge variety of budgets, shopping is amazing! Universal studio on Sentosa Island is out of this world - best theme park we've been too (easy beats Disneyland & Disneyworld).

Tryingtokeepgoing · 29/03/2024 20:36

We lived in Singapore for 6 months, and that, for me, was enough. Far preferred KL and Tokyo to live in. But, it’s great to visit, or use as a base to explore other parts of the region. 5 days is plenty, but it’s also a long flight for 5 days, I’d go for 10 days and spend 3 or 4 nights in Singapore and then explore Vietnam, Indonesia or Malaysia with the other week.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 29/03/2024 20:41

My mum and dad used to live out there and we went for a 3 week holiday and fell in love with the country. It is so clean, the people are friendly and it just felt a lovely place. Everyone said we would be bored after a week but we really weren't. There is so much to see and do.

TakeMe2Insanity · 30/03/2024 06:43

Every one says you can do Singapore in a weekend but we found loads to do. We found the heat slowed us down so tended to do an activity and spent time at the pool in the afternoon. Been a couple of times now and tend to go for a fortnight each time.

elizabethcharlotte · 30/03/2024 20:32

Thanks for all the messages. I will do a bit more research but I like the sound of a few days in Singapore followed by Bunyan island.
