I get into Basel early tomorrow and was planning on heading over to my air bnb in Strasbourg but the check in time is 4pm so lots of time to kill. I was thinking I might pop into Basel for a wander and lunch first. Got DH and a 10 and 13yo ds with me.

Anyone got any suggestions for a good family lunch or place to visit during the day tomorrow?

Basel so we can do 3 countries in 7 days seemed a nice idea but Freiburg also looks lovely.

I'm planning on going to Colmar another day I'm less tired. We will have got up early so chilling and lunch are the main orders of the day.

Be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

If you are into art, the Kunstmuseum in Basel is one of the best art galleries I have ever visited. Loved it. There's a little food market outside the Townhall where you can get something to eat. Not sure about opening times etc over Easter

@BuffysBigSister thanks (love your name!). I will look it up. Alarm set for 4am so dont think can cope with Art. I was looking at a museum with lots of dynamic art bit sounded like a better weekday visit.

Go across the border and eat in France, you'll get a lot more for your money. Do you have a car? If not, there are several good restaurants in Saint Louis that has a tram or bus connection from Basel. Tomorrow (Saturday) everything will be open as normal. If you want to stay in Basel, my kids quite like either Noohn sushi, or this burger place: https://uniondiner.ch/en/staenzlergasse

7 days, are you planning to go to Europapark? I would definitely recommend. Just an hour from Basel or 45 min from Strasbourg. Kids will love it.

Basel has a good zoo but your kids may be a bit old for it. Otherwise get the train to Colmar. Find the replica of the Statue of Liberty (there's a reason why Gustave Eiffel had a German-looking name). Get tarte flambée if you can, if not then do so in Strasbourg, your kids will love it.

Also in Strasbourg go to Le Baeckeoffe d'Alsace in Petite France, it's a bit touristy but the food is great (Baeckeoffe is a bit like Lancashire hot pot but way better).

We were there last month - Strassbourg is lovely. You'd have to try Flammkuchen / tarte flambé which is the local speciality. There's a great Italian restaurant called La Grappa that isn't touristy which I highly recommend as well but you will need to book ahead. Definitely visit Freiburg as well. It's been years since I went but it's very pretty too.

@KatharinaRosalie thanks I will head to that sushi place for dinner on my way home. We have a second day of Europapark tickets but depending on how much we do on the first day in the park was planning on leaving after lunch so we can drive back to Basel and get something to eat before a late flight.

We went to Freiburg yesterday. It's gorgeous but on a Saturday lunchtime absolutely ramjam and too busy to get lunch. We enjoyed our first bratwurst of the holiday outside the minster with a very crowded market going on.

Strasbourg is so lovely. What a clean chilled city! Currently in Parc l'orangerie whilst kids play, tomorrow I'm up early to climb the cathedral tower and hopefully go to the modern art gallery if it is open.

Any tips for Colmar gratefully received (but after my experience in Freiburg its "go early!")

Colmar is nice, but I think some of the smaller villages are more charming - Eguisheim, Ribeauville, Riquewihr or Kaysersrberg. You could also do the Kintzheim Eagle show on the way: https://www.voleriedesaigles.com/en
