Help me save my summer holiday !

I booked our family of three a summer eurocamp holiday for a site near Barcelona and paid the deposit (£360) as well as easyJet flights (£665) and car hire (£220). Once all holiday balance was due this was going to be a pricey holiday by our usual U.K. camping standards.

In February we decided it was going to be too hot on that site and rebooked for another Eurocamp on Lake Garda, which also had the benefit of not requiring the car hire. Was a bit cheaper but flights more expensive. Haven’t changed the easyJet flights yet.

Since this I’ve discovered I’m pregnant (yippee!) but am nervous following a first trimester loss in January. This time I would be around 22 weeks bt late July, all being well.

So now our conundrum is that although we have saved a lot of the remaining costs, I am worried about the financial outlay as we need to save for the baby/mat leave costs.

If we don’t go we would stand to lose £1200 😭 I can’t get a refund on any of it but eurocamp will let us move the deposit for another 2024 holiday. I can switch easyJet to other flights and dates with a total extra payment of £150.

Can anyone suggest a way of salvaging this - in theory we could go during second trimester, as long as spd not as bad as last time… so requirements would be;

  • Eurocamp site with some activities to interest 10 year old!
  • EasyJet flight departing Manchester, East Midlands or London (at a push)
  • site on the cheaper end, near the airport
  • no car hire needed
  • not loads of walking
  • not too hot

I have scoured eurocamp site with filters etc but am struggling to meet all this conditions - so wondered if anyone could recommend anywhere or had any other ideas?

thank you!

Wanted to edit and add - my DD will not entertain the idea of going during term time at all due to not wanting to miss any school at all. Fair enough, but it’s hard to find anything that isn’t staggeringly expensive In the holidays.

Can you go in May half term?

CurlyWurly1991 · 29/03/2024 14:07

@Forgottenmyphone we have something else for May half term, but thank you for the thought! I am looking at flight routes and starting to think French sites would be cheaper.

Check out sites near Beziers, Girona or Reus. Can fly to all from Manchester and many car free sites.

Otherwise might be worth checking with Eurocamp if they will allow you to sell holiday on with only a small charge per person for name change.

Or is the ferry and site in Northern France an option

I have been to that area a few times on campsites , it s fab, why not just go and enjoy the holiday, you are going to spend more to rebook.
The campsites are well serviced there s good transport and great tourist things to do in lake Garda area.

Can you get a few with a women's health physio early on your pregnancy with a view to advice for strengthening to reduce any SPD symptoms and start working on it now.

CurlyWurly1991 · 02/04/2024 07:44

@enidblythe oh really? That’s good to hear that the area is good.
Great idea about the women’s health physio now. I had some relief from an osteopath last time but that was after the spd was already really bad so I am looking at prevention. I guess this is something I need to organise and pay for privately? Haven’t even had my booking appt yet.

Did you take out insurance at the time of booking? What does that say about pregnancy related issues, either whilst you're away or once you're there?

CurlyWurly1991 · 02/04/2024 07:46

I think maybe I wasn’t clear in my OP, we have only paid the deposit for Eurocamp so far - £366. It’ll cost us another £400ish for the easyJet flight change and cost difference plus £1200 for the balance of the holiday… then spending money etc. At the moment I’ve repurposed my holiday fund to a baby fund 🤨

@alphabettispagetti I was covered by an annual multi trip travel insurance (admiral) which has just renewed for another year. It requires a doctors note to say you are unfit to travel in pregnancy. I did wonder if spd did get bad that this would give me some cover. My only worry is I haven’t rebooked the easy jet flights to Verona yet. Maybe if I do that I’m covered either way - either can take the holiday or am hopefully covered by the insurance. Then the other issue is cost, basically can’t afford it anyway!! There’s a voice in my head saying you won’t get another chance for ages … so do it for your 10 year old… there are so many unknowns in pregnancy though aren’t there?
