I've no idea what to expect with the weather and have limited weight and space. Has anyone been in early April to advise? Thanks

Comfortable shoes as Porto is hilly. You probably need a light coat too.

NCTDN · 28/03/2024 08:51

It's more how warm it will be that I'm unsure of.
Think I'm just taking two pairs of trainers.

An umbrella. Wear a very warm jacket when you go and you will have one whilst there.

I’d suggest something like one of those lightweight quilted jackets from Uniqlo that you can stuff into a little pouch. I used one on a recent trip to a Spanish city & it was perfect. I could wear it first thing and then put it in my bag when it warmed up. In the evening I usually added another layer

Trousers with an elasticated waist band because those pastel de nata are crazy good.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/03/2024 14:06

Layers! Definitely a waterproof and then several thin layers you can take off/put on as needed

It rains a lot in Porto this time of year, like really heavy, prolonged rain. I'd take a good rain coat and comfortable walking shoes. Temperatures are very variable in Spring. My friend lives there and said last weekend it was 26 degrees and this week it's around 11 degrees! Check the week's forecast before you leave.

And so are the Franceschinas !
Never had a sandwich like it - DH & I used to share one for lunch.

You know you can look up the weather forecast for any place, right?

in your weather app

should give you an idea. It will not be dissimilar to the weather in the South of England, in my experience , so bring a rain jacket and comfy waterproof shoes

We went last October and there was SO much rain. It was fabulous but just a crazy amount of rain. We had umbrellas and our most waterproof coats and waterproof shoes and they would still get drenched just from the volume of water hitting them from above.

I really enjoyed the museum complex - WoW I think it's called. It had loads of really interesting museums.

Quevedo had some great ports (it's a new port house but only because it was based outside the very tiny geographic area that used to be allowed).

We also had a great cocktails at The Rebello on their rooftop bar.

Rain jacket, umbrella, wear Waterproof shoes, pair of jeans, joggers or trousers, various tops for day and evening.

I’m in Porto rn. It’s cold, windy, and rainy. Hth

Denou · 28/03/2024 20:36

It rained a lot when I went one June. I just thought all of Portugal would be much more pleasant at that time of year.

Houseplantmad · 28/03/2024 20:44

We went in May 22. It was cool and rainy. I took a light fleece to wear under a good raincoat, which kept me warm, and flat leather shoes to walk on the cobblestones.

I'm now bothered about the weather next week...

Try the weather forecast, should be fairly accurate for next week

OnHerSolidFoundations · 30/03/2024 06:32

Love porto 💕

CosmosQueen · 30/03/2024 06:42

My sister’s there on holiday, says it wet, windy and cold. Next week’s forecast is 14-15°, windy and rain every day sadly sounds like similar to here, sorry
Oh dear OP 😵‍💫

I would really recommend checking the weather just before you go as weather in Europe seems to be as changeable as in the UK at the moment . But yes, definitely layers and take both sunscreen and a waterproof.
