Documents going between Canada and USA

We have a train trip booked from Toronto to NYC soon (and the return journey) We have the necessary visas for Canada and already have USA ones from a trip last year. But do we need any other documents for crossing the border? Thanks.

Maybe proof of departure (return tickets) and hotel address, but as long as you've got the visas all sorted, I'd think that was sufficient.

You need the ESTA at the US land border now (for a long time it was only at airports). If you got it last year it should still be valid.

For Canada you need the ETA to fly in, but not at a land border. They will probably just glance at your passport on the return trip because you will have been given a stamp for a 3-month visit when you landed.

Neither the ESTA nor the ETA is a visa. It's basically an electronic landing card. In fact some of the US border officials call it an I-94 which is the name of the old landing card that you had to fill in after a couple of drinks on the plane and hope that you got every square right on both the main form and the counterfoil.
