Cheddar Gorge or Wookey Hole with Tweens/young teens?

We're going to Centreparcs in Longleat at the weekend and don't really want to spend the whole time in the park, so planning some outings. I fancy visiting some caves, and trying to decide between Cheddar Gorge or Wookey Hole. I've see lots of threads and reviews that say Wookey is better for kids, but they seem aimed at the little ones. My boys are 9 and 12 so a bit more mature and not really interested in playgrounds anymore. Therefore which would be the better choice please?

Not a lot to do at Cheddar Gorge. From my memory Wookey Hole involves a guided tour of huge underground caves.

Don't they both have caves to tour @Rocknrollstar ?

They are fairly close but id imagine boys of that age would find far more to do at center parcs than either of those places! They aren’t right on the doorstep of longleat either!

Cheddar Gorge is just that I believe, Wookey Hole, the actual caves are cool, the rest is pretty naff. (Used to be interesting, had its own paper mill, has massively gone downhill over the last 20 years)

Think it depends on the teens

Cheddar gorge of they like a walk fresh air and cheese.

Wokey hole if they prefer a more museum sort of thing. Haven't been in ages mind

Either would work for that age. Cheddar has a couple of different caves you can explore, and there’s also the gorge which has some lovely walks. You can also see cheese being made. Wookey Hole has the caves and the paper mill.

Bath is far more interesting. It’s 30 minutes and a world heritage site.

Or Bristol for SS Great Britain. Around 1 hour but plenty to see and do.

Stonehenge is 30 minutes - that’s a world heritage site too.

Cheddar gorge is not that great. A narrow road through cliffs. Caves are ok but tacky.

Hi All,
just wondering if anyone knows of any vouchers for Wookey hole please?
we applied for Blue Peter badges but they haven’t come 😢
thanks

I'd say check out prices. Cheddar Gorge the climb was something like £20 pp I think this summer. I was surprised at the cost. And Stonehenge is astronomical. I've always wanted to go but it was too expensive. So do check out in advance.

Wookey is better IMO, however, at the price CP is I'm not sure I would be leaving site for another very expensive activity.

If you need out for a bit, you could go and mooch round Frome, Wells or Bath.
