Help me find a holiday!

I am looking to take my 1 year old away in September with my partner and our friend. My partner has a fear of flying so don’t really fancy going on a plane. The driver in the group is also too scared to drive in Europe lol so probably a staycation though I’m not against going abroad e.g by train. Can drive around the UK.

We are very flexible about where we go/what we do, happy with a bit of nature, city break, beach whatever really! I’m not big on camping but would do a glamp!

We live in Yorkshire but can travel. My girl is great in the car and on transport tbh.

we did Norfolk & Isle of Wight with kids at that age

A cruise from Southampton?

rookiemere · 26/03/2024 07:38

Eurostar to Paris or Amsterdam or overnight ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam? Think public transport round Holland is good.

Isle of Wight - lots of good activities, beaches etc, plus added bonus of ferry which adds to the trip

Cornwall - had lots of great holidays in Cornwall when kids were small

You can get to Jersey or Guernsey by sea from Poole or Portsmouth. Feels more 'abroad' than staying on the mainland and the driving is the same as the UK (albeit on smaller roads, and good reversing skills are a must for narrow country lanes).

Hull to Rotterdam on the ferry then train to anywhere you fancy! The Hague and beaches.

Or else I'd look at Scotland, around Loch Lomond and up to Fort William as a base.

Buses are good in Jersey so you don't necessarily need a car

Ferry to Netherlands, or Eurostar to Amsterdam - look at Dutch Centerparcs and Roompot.com

Bjorkdidit · 27/03/2024 04:52

Isle of Man or Ireland by ferry as on the same side of the road in the driver's own car and mostly quieter roads than the UK so nothing to be scared of and easily accessible from Liverpool or possibly North Wales.

I'd do Amsterdam via ferry from Hull or depending on where in Yorkshire you're from I'd get the fast train to London from Doncaster (takes 90 minutes) and get the Eurostar to either Paris, Lille or Brussels.

Northumberland is lovely! Lovely beaches, amazing castles geared up for kids (Alnwick castle is amazing) and great busy towns full of lovely restaurants and cool shops.

Also, Darwen Forest holiday park in the Peak District is amazing. It’s like a very classy less commercialised Center Parcs. The accommodation is very luxurious with most having hot tubs. There is a lovely pool you cold take DD in every day, restaurant on site with little toddler soft play, playgrounds and lovely walks nearby. You are also close to lots of little towns and a petting farm just down the road. You’ll get a good deal in September I bet.

Never realised I was that passionate about Darwen Forest until I started typing!

Haven Primrose Valley or Burnham on Sea or even a train then the eurostar straight to Disneyland. It stops at the park

Whyarepeoplesoweird · 01/04/2024 21:55

Centre parcs!

Comeondelicious · 16/04/2024 07:07

Dartmoor! fantastic free roaming animals, views, tearooms, pubs...

LMMuffet · 16/04/2024 07:32

The weather is so unpredictable in the UK that I tend to avoid holidays here. But I do love taking the Eurostar to go abroad to avoid flying - lots of destinations now.

if you want to then .from wild coastal spots like the Giant’s Causeway to its wealth of historical attractions such as Stonehenge and the cultural capitals of London and Edinburgh, the diversity you can find within the UK makes it the ultimate choice for a memorable staycation.
