Surf and yoga holidays - Portugal or Spain?

Trying to find a summer holiday where my daughter and partner can do a surfing school/camp, whilst I potter/do some yoga (I'm scared of waves!). Seem to be lots of little places but hard to find one. Trailfinders couldn't help. Any recommendations?

The Oitavos Hotel in Cascais

Calima Surf in Lanzarote was great, I did a surf and yoga camp there years ago.

Thanks both, I'll follow those up 👍

@MollyRover what was the accommodation like?

Very basic, hostel style but maybe they have more options now, it was about 10 years ago when I was there.

It's hard not to trip over yoga retreats in Portugal, they are everywhere!!

Arcadia · 21/03/2024 17:02

@Eyesopenwideawake yes but they're difficult to book online as tend to be small and family run! That's why I'm asking!

Does it need to be a hotel kinda place that does all these things or are you happy to find accommodation and then maybe walk to a school ? Would deffo recommend tarifa there are some lovely hotels and plenty of places where you can learn to surf. Nearest airports I think are Seville and Gibraltar

We’ve done surfing lessons at Praia Areia Branca many years ago - pretty sure it was with this bunch as the name rings a bell:

Praia Areia Branca is a nice village - we ended up eating at the Foz Bar most nights because the food was so good (it was a good few years ago so I hope it’s still as good). We were renting a townhouse through Owners Direct.

You should take a look at Taghazout in Morocco - you fly into Agadir and it's just 40mins away. Really well renowned for surf schools and yoga...cheap too.

Thanks @MollyRover I'm in touch with them via WhatsApp and they've sent me more info, we'd stay in an apartment nearby as a family

Ah fab, they're really lovely, I had a great time with them! 250€ for accommodation, lessons and lunch for a week in peak season too, you wouldn't get it now 😄

I’m off to Surfing Colors hotel in Corralejo in a weeks time. They put on yoga classes 3 mornings a week.

@Arcadia It's run by some guys I knew waaay back in the 90s when I worked a few seasons in a bar in Lagos - it's always been a bit of a surfy, bohemian place that attracts a lot of Aussies and South Africans; a handful of them never left and set up various businesses there Smile

Lagos has grown and become more gentrified since then but is still a beautiful, relaxed and cool place to visit. I'm going for a long weekend with a mate in May (although there is unlikely to be much surfing on the agenda - it'll be wine and sun all the way!!).

Thanks! Is Lago's quite busy in August? If so is there anywhere quieter nearby? We don't want too much of a 'party' place as we like it quiet at night!

Following this would suit my family!

Just seen you can go kayaking in Lagos around caves and do snorkelling - I love kayaking! Looks like a great place. I also speak Portuguese! Although I guess most people speak English there, the locals might appreciate it!

@Arcadia Praia Da Luz, Alvor or Burgau may suit - all much quieter but not a million miles from Lagos! Or Carveiro, but that's about 30 mins away (Uber is readily available in the Algarve).
