I’m fortunate to have quite a bit of time off from work for a little while (year or two) l, I have 2 ds (older & younger teen). looking to use the opportunity of free time to be away where we can relax and just enjoy time together. I’ve been scrolling through holiday sites and reviews and quickly get lost in the possibilities. So please could anyone recommend their go to places with teens? TIA

Mine love to go to a city. Berlin was a huge hit and they also liked Paris. We went to Verona and Venice a few years ago but in August and it was (unsurprisingly) too hot for them. They loved New York but that was a massive treat holiday 😁 In this country they liked Bath and York as well as London. They're both very arty so galleries and museums tend to be their thing but wouldn't suit everyone. What do your DC like to spend time doing?

Skiing!

I remember taking mine on a Neilson beach holiday when he was in his early teens. He still says it was his favourite holiday, and he’s been all over the world since!

We did road trips at that age - Spain, Germany, Italy, France obviously ... also cruises went down well

Skiing!

Which exactly echoes the importance of @MySillyDog81 's point 😁 I skied when I was in my teens and twenties (badly) but my two have no interest in "skidding down a mountain with planks on my feet" 😂

Sorry yes you’re all right would have been helpful if I put their interests ect..
Both are really easy going and just embrace and grateful for being away so it’s hard to nail down what is a must…

We have planned a few cities breaks away and the usual sight seeing hot spots, they have done a few before, I’ve done some without them so would love to take them to those places both home and away - both agreed and now deciding what they’d like to see and do in those places.

i hadn’t actually considered skiing so just about to start looking at those holiday - thank you!

i guess I’m now looking for the typical warm beach holiday destination which will be more laid back (for me at least), which has enough to keep them occupied (beach, pools, other teens), where everyone can be as occupied as they want or simply just relax but safely without constant supervision so they feel this sense of independence and not on holiday with mum. Preferably with a local town a walk or bus ride away - as we go like to go out have food, shopping and general walk around the local areas. When area we like to check out activities offered, so we’ve done the buggy and quads, scuba driving, boat rides. From our last holiday I know they’d probably want some night life they are more night owls - last place we went have a beach party/night club thing going on.

Mine liked Tenerife at that age. Quite a few excursion things to do (water park/volcano/beach/markets) but also some quite interesting night life/restaurants on the beach etc

If they like city breaks a cruise might suit you. All the benefits of a hotel with lots of entertainment and restaurants plus stopping at a different city every day. Mine loved this when they were late teens.
Other holidays that worked well were Costa Adeje in Tenerife. Lots to do including the fabulous Siam Park.
Tsivili in Zakynthos - busy beach resort with water sports

I’ve looked at Tenerife, a few friends have mentioned and some go every year, just struggle to narrow down a resort 😅

I have considered a cruise, but whenever I mention the thought people look at me and asks if I’m 50… now I never thought cruises are for older people or they’d even be kid/teen less I always thought they would be quite convenient and worth the money but because of these comments I have this fear that I’ll get on board and everyone else will be right..

thank you for your suggestions and that you said they worked well for you, I guess that’s what I was looking for tried and tested place thank you

Sun Gardens in Dubrovnik suited our 3 teenagers. Lots to do but able to chill and close to the city.

crumpet · 17/03/2024 18:40

What about a holiday where they can lead. To sail or dive or windsurf ?

TheBackingSinger · 17/03/2024 20:25

Cruises are not all old people. We found there were lots of teenagers, plus it's safe for them to have some freedom. On the excursions they can pick a city tour or something more active like boat trips. We chose Marrella as they are informal - no having to dress up and all food and drinks included. On one trip we did a one week cruise plus a week in a hotel in Mallorca.
