Dp wants to takes dd 20 mo to visit relatives in Ireland.

However he doesn't want to hire a car as no need as relatives have car..........but no car seat.

Anyone know what to do. Can you take them on a plane?.........along with buggy, and rest of luggage?

You can, either in the hold or strapped onto the seat, if you buy an individual ticket for the 20mo.
Or the relatives could ask on freecycle if anyone has one to spare or loan, we have done tis before.

We just took ours as a piece of baggage. And I think Ryanair didn't charge us for it. But I'm not sure - it doesn't sound like them not to charge for something!

Who are you flying with? This may make a difference.

Generally you have to take them to outsized luggage, but I've never had one weighed.

Hmmm...feel it would be Ryanair ,as (on the surface at least) this is the cheapest..

Do you have a car yourself? Could you take the ferry?

fizzbuzz · 26/03/2008 18:18

Does freecycle exist in Ireland???Well Dublin really..........

I think it's worldwide

Dp is going with dd, not me ( I am having some child free quality time TO MYSELF )

Ferry is so expensive and means a four hour journey to ferryport, with dd strapped in said carseat screaming "Stuck!" all the way, as she wants to get out

I've travelled to Ireland by plane both with Ryanair and Easyjet and have taken the car seat along with me. I usually put it in a big bin bag with the flight details stuck to the front (have had one lost before) and then take it to outsize baggage after check in. Never been charged for it yet (but there's always a first time).

Get your dh's relatives to ask around to see if they can borrow one as it's by far the easiest option. The first few times we visited my parents with ds my dm had a choice of seats because all her friends who are grandmothers have spare seats for when they look after their grandchildren. There's bound to be a few people among their family/friends whose child has outgrown a seat or who have a spare for occasional use.
