East Coast Canada

Does anyone have any itineraries or experience of a family holiday (DS12, DD10) on the East Coast?

Looking for a Big Holiday destination and DH has suggested but I don't know much about it / think it sounds pretty dull! Likely to be either Easter or Summer.

We're all sporty / outdoorsy so I'm pushing for West Coast / Rockies etc but want to see if I'm missing something which is much closer and with less jet lag!!

Air Canada goes from Heathrow to Halifax, Nova Scotia. 6 hours 50 minutes so not much sleeping time!

We are going Nova Scotia in September. We are staying in Halifax and then a circular self driving tour including Lunenburg, Annapolis Royal, Alma, Charlottetown, Antigonish, Cheticamp, Ingonish, Baddeck and Charlos Cove. We are hoping to hike, see whales, enjoy local food, drink and music and the history. The scenery is important to us and we have been to western Canada several times but not to the Rockies. I think Newfoundland is more sparsely populated so NS appealed to us more.

Make sure you stop at Fisherman’s Cove - I’ve a picture in our hall I took there last year.

You will love it! Lots of little craft breweries that have restaurants attached.
The Titanic museum is a must. So much history around the first settlers from Europe, especially Scotland.

@Parker231 Thats a list of where we are staying in just under 3 weeks! All other places considered!

@Beebumble2 @ZenNudist I am very much looking forward to this holiday. If I was going with teens, I still think there’s enough to see and do. It’s proper Eastern Canada!

TizerorFizz · 13/03/2024 22:32

@Beebumble2 We are staying virtually next door to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic which I think has the Titanic artefacts? Definitely on our radar!

We did Toronto, Niagara, Rice lake and Ottawa when my kids were 15 and 11. We sought out child friendly things to do but did all the main tourist things too. Booked it all through Canadian Affair and saved a fortune compared to Air Canada.
They are in their 30s now and still talk about it and even went back to Toronto to re do some things in their 20s

Toronto and Ottawa etc are not on the coast though. They are Eastern Canada but not coastal. The great thing about coastal areas is the beauty of that and marine life. Far less touristy.
