Brittany ferries no cabin

We've booked a crossing to st Mali so quite a long overnight crossing - for 4 of us. There were no cabins left. Does anyone know if there's any chance of getting one and if so how? I'm guessing chances are slip to none, but asking just in case anyone has anything tips!

We booked to Caen and to return from St Malo.

Several reasons:
No cabins left to St Malo
When we arrive we’re driving straight off the ferry to our gite so won’t be stopping in the arrival port
Spending an extra day & overnight in St Malo before taking ferry home as always really enjoy the last day there.
Beautiful to depart from St Malo

If I'd booked I think I'd have done the same! It's a lovely start to the Holliday to book the restaurant for the evening then wake up the next morning in France. It won't be nearly as lovely on the recliners!

Where are you going in France? Can you change your booking?

ToMowOrNotToMow · 09/03/2024 21:01

Ah yes, forgot that bit - we love the restaurant on the way out on the ferry!!

Off to Puy du Fou for a couple of days again this time. Think it will be the last time with teenage ds sadly :-(

Plymouth Roscoff is a decent alternative

JeanGabin · 09/03/2024 21:06

We could change possibly, but had already booked campsite / villa
I love roscoff too but it'd add a lot of driving - we're going to Bergerac then back to nevez for a week camping. And we're very close to Portsmouth.
Maybe I should investigate switching to Caen on the way out if we can.

There are probably a few no-shows on every crossing. But there will also be plenty of people in your position wanting to get a cabin.

You could maybe try getting to check-in really, really early and ask if they have had any cancellations. If that doesn't work then hopefully your early check-in means you will get on the ship first (unless the way in which they peel cars off the car park doesn't follow first-come first-served) and so you can get straight to reception/guest services before everyone else. But it's probably going to be a bit like the January sales.

Thanks Sammarange - will give it a shot if we can't swap!

When I was a kid we used to go to on the overnight ferry to Ireland. We took sleeping bags and slept outside on the big life jacket bins. That would probably be frowned on these days.
