Family city break ideas

I'm looking for idea for city breaks for me, DH and our 3 DCs (15, 13 and 9). I'd love Paris but DH isn't keen as goes there a lot for work. I wondered about Barcelona but was hoping you would all have some good suggestions based on trips you have done. We usually do cottage/villa type holidays but looking for a few days during the Easter holidays to do something a bit different to our usual....

Amsterdam is great, and Duinrell an hour away is a great place to stay with teenagers.(we drive there).

It’s a while since we’ve been (pre-covid) so had a quick search and found these two articles. It’s a lovely city to walk around, soak up the atmosphere etc. (and wander into the red light district…).

You can drive,fly or I think there’s trains that go there now.

Totally hijacking - am thinking of taking DTs almost 13 going on 16 to Duinrell. Is it still good for that age / how long do you go for?

Berlin and Lisbon would be one son’s recommendation. The other would say Valencia or Rome.

Have done Seville, Valencia, Rome, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Reykjavik, Vienna, Alicante, Malaga.
Palma next month. Lisbon and Dubrovnik on the bucket list.
Seville and Rome are my favourites.

It's easy enough to fill 2 days but much longer would be hard.

It's easy from the airport

Cheap when you're there.

I think so. It has a good pool complex, and a theme park. I have family friends who go there year after year, and the youngest ‘children’ are now in their early twenties. It is also well located - Amsterdam isn’t to far away plus there are lovely sandy beaches nearby.

We went for a week and used it as a base for exploring the surrounding area. We went to the theme park and pool first thing or later in the day, when it was quieter.

Having just returned from there, I could if I dragged things out. But I hit the things I wanted to see, I'd spend more time drinking coffee and eating perhaps. And I will be going back with the children to redo some things properly.

But it's easier to do in a short space of time than say, Paris is

I would suggest Vienna. Beautiful city and lots to do, but not huge either

We did Malaga with a pre teen and teen and we all loved it.

Cheap flights- as there's loads of flight options.
Quick transfer from airport
Beautiful city. Properly Spanish. V few English people around - I think people go straight from the airport to the likes of Benidorm!
Lots to see eg cathedral, Picasso museum, amphitheatre, gaming museum, fort, football match etc.
Beach in the city - really lovely clean beach and great for swimming
Nice weather
Lots of accommodation options, we did Airbnb
Amazing food and wine and v cheap to eat out
Easy to travel around- trains and busses up and down the coast and trips up to the mountains.

We also liked Seville, Grenada and Lisbon 👍

Stay in Pompei. Visit Pompei ruins, Herculaneum and Vesuvius.

We've enjoyed Paris, Nice/Monaco, Copenhagen, Belfast, York, Reykavik and we're off to Edinburgh at Easter. DC were 4 and 7 when we went to Paris, 12 and 15 for Reykavik and all other ages in between for the rest.

Valencia, history, beautiful beach. City of arts and sciences (aquarium etc), zoo., Turia park. I loved it and it’s far less busy than Barcelona
