Any tips on beach holiday that won’t be scorching hot in July?

We’re taking our 16 &18DSs on holiday fir what may be the last family holiday for a while. We’re going in early July. Will probably only get them to go for about five days so long haul is out. DS1 reacts very badly to heat above 26- and tbh I don’t like it much above that temp either. Can anyone think of anywhere we could go that won’t be scorching hot in July (we used to do all out ‘summer beach holidays’ in May half term when they were little, thanks

Netherlands has lovely beaches.

Madeira was lovely in July, late 20s at the most. I'm not a fan of the heat and found it ok.

Madeira’s nice but not really a beach holiday. The beaches there are limited & not that great.

You could go lakeside instead of beach, alps or other mountains or northern europe

TizerorFizz · 06/03/2024 13:44

Normandy or Brittany. Denmark or Sweden. Anywhere Northern Europe.

My DC absolutely loved Club Med Da Balaia in Portugal in their mid teens. The temp will be in the high 20s in July but there is plenty of shade there and usually quite a breeze which means it doesn't feel too hot. The sea is also cold there so there is always somewhere to cool off. The activities are good especially the trapeze. I found the climate there more bearable than hot humid summer days we sometimes get in the UK.

Bear2014 · 06/03/2024 14:15

It could be well above that temperature even in the UK at that time. Last May half term we got the train down via Paris to Arcachon on the West Coast of France. It was absolutely beautiful, friendly and lots of places to see from there.

Bear2014 · 06/03/2024 14:16

Should say that in May half term it was early 20s, only a couple of degrees warmer than then UK. Could be hot in July but definitely not to the level of places further South.

For that part of the Algarve, The Met Office now says 33 degrees but can be under 30 degrees.

Decorhate · 06/03/2024 17:57

I tried the Algarve once as I hoped it would be cooler than the Med. It was too hot for me.

Maybe somewhere on the west coast like Cascais would be cooler.

Belgium- went for last family holiday before eldest went to uni for five days last July. I’m a beach loving heat hater.

Sea and beach

In Europe try Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Netherlands or Belgium.

Scotland also has some good but colder beaches. Cromarty and Rosemarkie on the Black Isle are lovely on a sunny day and its never above 25 degrees. You can sometimes see dolphins at Chanonry Point. Orkney also has lovely beaches and would be even cooler than the Black Isle.

What about Slovenia? Not beach/sea but lakes

Kosenrufugirl · 06/03/2024 21:15

Spanish Basque country (Northern Spain). Easy Jet flights to Bilbao

Talkinpeace · 06/03/2024 21:17

Locmariaquer / Carnac / Morbihan in Brittany.

Fab beaches, fab food, fab history
and if it gets too hot, nip up to Normandy for the beaches around Mont St Michel

DaveClifton · 06/03/2024 21:18

Channel Islands...St Brelades in Jersey is wonderful

Branleuse · 06/03/2024 21:27

Brittany

KeeeeeepDancing · 07/03/2024 06:47

Ireland! It would be a miracle to go above 26 degrees in July! Lovely beaches.

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 07/03/2024 06:52

Isle of Wight. Or the Welsh coast.

Hobbesmanc · 07/03/2024 06:56

Head to Sligo or one of the other Western Irish counties. Amazing beaches. Try Strand Hill for brilliant surfing and a sea weed bath spa. Great pubs and places to eat in Sligo town.
