Talk to me about driving to the south of France?

We're planning a trip to Toulouse this summer, and we are considering driving over rather than flying and hiring a car on arrival.

The positive part of my brain is saying this will be a lovely adventure, we can stay over night somewhere along the way and see the country as we go.

The other part of me is saying don't be crazy 😂

Any tips on somewhere nice to stay as a stop off? How to time the journey?

Me, DH, DS12 and DD2.

Now I am thinking about going to France this year again. It might have been the memory of playing chicken at the 30km toll barriers that made me nostalgic

I was thinking about your thread which I read before we had a 5 hour drive through France and just wanted to add a tip as we went last week. We went Sunday to Saturday to have a day of half term either side of our holiday (which turned out to be great as apparently the tunnel delays were horrific on Saturday) BUT what got a bit stressful was the time pressure the hour delay we had put in reaching a supermarket before they shut at 12.30pm on Sunday! We just squeaked in with 15 mins to go in Calais but I’d not thought about it which would have been problematic for dinner that night. And the restrictions of what you can take over (no dairy etc) are a real pain fur the first night if your travelling on a Sunday!

It's further than you think!
