Can you sleep in Premium Economy? Is it worth it?

Looking at flying to Mauritius on an overnight flight. It’s 12 hours so not short. I can’t afford business class but I really can’t cope with economy. Can people sleep in Premium Economy? I find if I have a good head rest and can recline a bit I get more comfortable in economy, so guess ones in premium have better room?

It’s about double the cost, I think £1,700 each. (Stuck on dates)

So personally I find PE worse than bog standard economy - something about the seat angle really hurts my back. But you do get more leg room and the seat goes back a bit further. I have slept ok in it but I can also get to sleep in economy as long as I have a neck pillow- that's the game changer IMO.

Have you priced it up separately? I flew back from NY and it was about £70pp extra for PE. The way out was hundreds more!

I think it depends a little on which airline you're flying with. Which airline are you using?

Premium economy was worth it on flights to Australia. More leg room and wider seats 2 abreast rather than 3, so fewer people to clamber over you to get to the loo. Toilets just for PE so no long queues. Plenty of space on overhead lockers.

At that price it's not worth it. I can never sleep on a plane, even in business though.

I think if you're tired enough you'll sleep anywhere! We flew out to the US premium economy and it was lovely (American Airlines)... lots of leg room, comfy seats and small sectioned off cabin with own loos but I didn't sleep a wink. Coming back, we were right at the back of the plane in economy and I slept the entire way . Poor DH is 6ft 2 and didn't sleep a wink though as he was so uncomfortable.

I recently flew economy and fell asleep, when I woke up most people around me were asleep.

I've flown premium economy with a few different airlines, it wasn't ever double the cost though and I wouldn't pay that.

I don't think premium vs economy is the difference between sleeping and not sleeping.

I’ve never slept in premium economy, it’s just not comfortable enough.

Get a foot hammock

We got back from Mauritius last week, business there, PE back owing to no availability in business. We are usually more than happy in PE but I'm 32 weeks so comfort was a huge factor. BA flight back overnight, we had 3 babies in the front row and two very young toddlers, all of which took it in turns to scream at regular intervals, making sleep very difficult and broken (heavily suggest loop earplugs, not the crap they give you). When the seats are fully reclined in front of you, the only way out of a non aisle seat is to climb, you cannot stand up to get out to the loo. The loos were all the way back in Economy, admittedly walking through there looked like a refugee camp at 4am with people just trying to sleep however they could manage, meaning a lot of legs to climb over to finally go for a pee.

Not my overall favourite experience longhaul. BA premium economy is pretty much the worst of the premium economies, Norwegian air was brilliant, so much more space.

So, is it worth it? Well, it was bad enough in PE, I can only imagine the hell of 12 hours over night in economy, so probably. But, if you can, go business. That was epic.

It completely depends on the airline and aircraft! Premium economy in Qantas on the Dreamliner for long haul? Absolutely - it's great. Other airlines I think you're sometimes better off to purchase and exit row seat in standard economy and save your money. A good neck pillow, a sleeping pill and an eye mask- you'll be fine

I can sleep in PE, is it possible to only upgrade for the return flight? Also research different airlines for pitch space. I recently flew Tui PE and their pitch and seat recline wasn’t as good as other companies I’ve flown with.
