Chicken Pox & Ryanair??

We travel to Spain with Ryanair on Friday but just been notified there is a chicken pox outbreak at DDs nursery!! She has been off her food and seeming a bit unwell today and now we’re stressing! We haven’t taken out travel insurance yet (I know I know tut tut!!), does anyone know if most policies will allow cover for illnesses like chicken pox? And if we still have time to take it out just in case she is infected? Spent a fortune on the holiday inc hotel and dreading losing all that money!!!

I don't think you'd be covered under travel insurance if you took it out now.

Don't take a chicken pox infected child on a plane though!

Oh no no intention to fly with her if she does become infected incase of any pregnant women or other babies on there! I’d go mad if someone else did it! But just hoping we can find a way to protect ourselves just in case.

No it’s too late to get insurance now - I have no idea why people don’t take it out when they book a holiday

The incubation period for chicken pox can be several weeks, so even if your child does get it you may be back before it comes out

My exclusion period for any claims on my latest policy was 14 days, I expect it's fairly normal so if you don't already have travel insurance I wouldn't hold your breath about a new policy paying out.

Could you get vaccine? Apparently it can still work up to 5 days from exposure.

We had a holiday booked something like 2 weeks after DD had chickenpox, I remember lots of stress! Seem to remember the insurance would only pay out if a doctor would certify she wasn’t fit to travel. As it was she was fine to travel so didn’t have to put it to the test!

But I would also urgently try and find a policy that doesn’t have a 14 day exclusion period. I have taken out a policy on the morning of the flight before (when I hadn’t realised my annual cover had expired) so some must permit immediate claims. Obviously if your child develops a rash in the interim it’s too late.

We managed to get a policy thank goodness spoke with a broker and explained the situation and he found us a suitable option. Now let’s just pray we don’t have to use it!! Thank you everyone.
