Hi there, we’ve (family of three) just booked flights to Athens for the first week of April. Our plan is to get the boat over to Hydra and spend a week there in an Airbnb and come back to Athens and fly home. I’ve been to Hydra twice as an adult but 15 years ago and loved it. My query is will it be remotely suitable for a four year old? Aware it’s too cold for sea swimming in April but is there enough pottering about to do there? Will we get bored or is there exploring to do? I love the idea of no cars. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

Hi - just to say, my son and I are also going to Athens in early April, for 6 nights. It’s supposed to be a city break (we love history), but I’m also determined to take a day trip to Hydra - I’m a big Leonard Cohen fan and want to see the island that he loved so much! I want to see his house, and memorial, and just see whether I’d go back another time for a holiday.

So I’m not much help to you really, but Hydra seems to have lovely beaches and no cars, so lots of walking would be idyllic if your four-year old is keen to walk? There’s donkey rides (but maybe not so good for a youngster!) There is a Monastery to visit as well. What did you do when you went there before? Would it be a good idea to spend your week split between 2 islands, ie Aegina as well, which does have cars?

I’m hoping the weather will be really good! Have a lovely time!
