City break with 10mo?

We want to get away with 10mo DS for a long weekend city break. Not rushing around like crazy trying to squeeze in sightseeing, just a change of scenery, good food al fresco, strolling around with DS in a buggy. Everyone says we should do an all inclusive beach break but I feel like I would get bored being so remote. Am I crazy to consider a city break?

Absolutely not. DD would have been a a nightmare in an AI resort.

We live in London and did plenty of day trips with DD to museums and sightseeing with her. As long as you plan carefully and your child is happy in a buggy/sling you will be fine. People in typical city break locations have small children/babies as well, there is plenty to do with them.

For us personally a s/c appartment would have always work the best, you can eat out or get a take away if you want a peaceful evening but I know friends who were happy in hotels.

Sounds like a lovely idea. Definitely self cater. You don’t want to be stuck in a hotel room with the light off at 8pm.

It's a great idea. It's generally an easy age for that type of trip. I agree about the self catering though. We still laugh about a weekend in Seattle where we wandered around downtown looking for a baby-friendly restaurant on a Friday evening, and then spent an hour crouching down beside the bed in the hotel room, hiding from a very wired baby, in a bid to get her to sleep!

Malaga would be good. Short flight easy quick cheap train to city centre beach lively harbour with shady parks nearby. Restaurants outside everywhere and tourist sights in town if you want them.

10 months is actually a pretty good time to do a city break (it gets harder once they start walking and having opinions 😂).

We did Lisbon when my son was 7 months, Vienna/Salzburg at 9 months and Milan when he was 13 months. They all went well and we had a great time on each trip.

We found self-catering apartments were easier. We would have nice meals out at breakfast and lunchtime then go back to the apartment and do dinner/bedtime according to his normal routine (he liked to go to bed at 7pm and get up at 6am). It also helped that we could put him in a separate bedroom and then stay up in the living room until our bedroom (we’ve stayed in hotel rooms on other holidays and it’s a bit rubbish having to go to bed when he does).
Obviously you’ll need to be a bit flexible but he was very happy being pushed around the city (I’d choose somewhere where everything can be reached by public transport because having to deal with car seats in taxis is a pain).

I would recommend checking how accessible the city is. We also went to Croatia when he was 5 months and Dubrovnik/Split were horrendous with a pushchair.

Sounds perfect. We've only ever done city breaks with our son.
