Recommendations near La Rochelle

We are looking to stay somewhere along the coast near to La Rochelle this June with a 2yo and 6yo - Sequioa Parc near Royan looks great but apparently it can be terrible for mosquitoes. Does anyone have any recommendations for a campsite with a good waterpark for the kids that is in this area (preferably with no mosquitoes, as I know I'll be eaten alive!)

We don't mind North or South of La Rochelle, we just thought the area would be good to explore, not too far from the ferry and have aquarium/zoos etc if the weather isn't great.

Have you looked at Huttopia sites in the region?

No I haven't, there seem to be a few big companies (such as Eurocamp) that seem to dominate everything when you are looking - I'll take a look! Any one in particular you'd recommend?

Actually Odalys are another company with sites, though the two we’ve stayed at , one at Rivedoux Plage on Ile de Re, are brick and mortar buildings.

Yelloh and Europarc are other companies in the Huttopia/ Eurocamp market.

Theres a few campsites on Ile de Re itself, one of them an Huttopia, it’s how much ‘water park’ type stuff you need rather than a kids pool / play area.

We stayed at the Yelloh campsite in St Jean de Monts last year and it was very lovely. It's 2hrs up the coast from La Rochelle, which might be too far for you. There are two pools, which were fine for my two (ages 6 & 8) but you might be looking for more.

Huttopias are fab. There are a few round there, but they don't have waterparks. The one we go to on Ile d'Oleron doesn't even have a pool. They are very much of the 'back to nature' type & are amazing if you have kids & like that sort of thing

Had a look at huttopia but they are booked for our dates! Have seen some alternatives on Oleron though, would you recommend it as a place to stay? We are just looking for somewhere to relax but that we can go to markets, mooch about in a few towns nearby etc. Looks beautiful from pictures!

Oleron is a brilliant place - plenty to do & see with a very relaxed vibe. It is considered to be less 'fancy' than Ile de Ré, but I've not been there so can't comment. Oleron suits us too well to try anywhere else in the area.
