Hi

we’re not too big on summer holidays, and I’ve always wanted to go to America during the “fall season”. Take the kids, do some of your typical American fall activities. Pumpkin patch, woodland fall walks etc

I like the idea of Maine. New Hampshire area. Should we move about ?

just wondering where would be best to take this all in. I would ideally love to go over the Halloween season. A 2 week break. 2 kids.

any tips welcome. Areas. Activities.

Fly into Boston. Lovely smallish city, very historical. Have a couple of days there.

Drive to Cape cod for a couple of days. You can stay on the Cape or in Plymouth. There's lots to do - seaside, history (recreated puritan village etc).

Then head inland/north. Western mass (Pioneer Valley) is beautiful early October, then travel into New Hampshire - even the big towns here aren't very big.

I'd finish with a few days on the Maine coast - Kennebunkport ideally - before heading back to Boston.

Ooh and if you happen to be near Halloween, you should do a night in Salem. It's a bit theme park but good fun.

Oh thanks for your reply. This all sounds great. I’ve looked up some Salem threads. I think it can be done in a day, would you agree ?

How old are dc? Ben and Jerry's factory. White mountains, Plimouth Plantation, cycling around Cape Cod, whale watching.

We were in Boston just before Halloween.

We did Salem which was mad but great.

We also did trick or treating when we were in New York - if you can do that somewhere it's an experience unlike anything at home - don't think my girls will ever forget it.

Also nearer NY we were recommended
a pumpkin blaze - it looked good but as we had no car it didn't work for us.

Don’t dc have to go to school?

Don’t dc have to go to school?

I’d think Salem at Halloweentime would be education enough!

Don’t dc have to go to school?

Lots of schools have a 2 week October half term - mine do and that's why we went then.

We went at the end of October one year. We started off in Boston then drove down to Plimouth and visited Plimouth Plantation and the replica of the Mayflower, across to Lennox, visited Hancock Shaker Village, then up to Weston in Vermont, calling in at Old Sturbridge Village en route. We then stayed in Marblehead near Salem which although it can get a bit theme parky has a lot of historical interest.

We did have a detour into New Hmpshire, but it was to stay overnight in a crummy motel so we didn't see much of it.

It was one of the best holidays we have had.

Old Sturbridge Village

Old Sturbridge Village is New England's largest living history museum. Plan your visit and learn about life in rural 1830s Massachusetts.

I would check closely what is open on Cape Cod, it could start closing down.

Maybe look at Vermont as well. DH has a business acquaintance there and he always sends beautiful photos.

Boston is a great city to explore, Salem is a short train ride away.

If you fancy Maine consider a trip to Moosehead lake. It’s very beautiful and there are loads of nature trails nearby. We went to Lazy Tom’s bog and saw two moose there which was amazing.
