Where to go in the states

Hi y’all . I want to plan a surprise holiday for my kids for one of my daughter’s 9th bday. She absolutely loves the states and we tend to go there once a year but this year we are going in April to Orlando and I thought we could go somewhere different in August. Anywhere in the states that you think we should go? Any places to stay too (we are family of 5 will be 7 in June)

Go NORTH. Anywhere south of Boston is going to be stinking hot in August.

MermaidEyes · 26/02/2024 16:32

Mine too! But logistically I don't even see how it's feasible anyway. I'm sure I couldn't get an appointment to register my first until she was 5 weeks old, nevermind worrying about passports too!

Yes there's that to consider, plus flights couldn't be booked until twins are born which will make them more expensive and less choice the nearer to August you get.
OP how about considering a week at October half term? West coast will be lovely and east coast will still be warm enough. Something for your daughter to look forward to after her birthday?

HawkersEast · 26/02/2024 16:48

Chicago and NY will be too hot in August, I would recommend California, specifically Southern CA. Great beaches and plenty do in San Diego - zoo, safari park, sea world, baseball etc and you have OC and LA close by. Weather is a little more temperate.

Cape Cod. But not with babies.

With babies, caravan in Devon or Cornwall. 🙂

I was considering not taking the twins as it may be manic with passports and everything but I’m still debating and thanks y’all for all these I’m thinking probably New York with just me my daughters because my youngest has always wanted her own holiday with me because her brother got to go to Birmingham with me when he was 6 and her sister went to France

New York is horrible in August - way too hot and humid.

@DinnaeFashYersel Did you take new born twins?

No. She was asking for travel advice not parenting advice.

This has to be a joke. You’re going to leave your newborn twins to go on holiday a long haul flight away? And your son got Birmingham and your daughter gets NYC? Poor lad.

Donimo · 26/02/2024 20:38

No advice on where to go. But in relation to travel with twins or leaving them at home. I have twins who were born in June so just wanted to let you know about what additional care they needed (this is not uncommon with twins either). They were not discharged from hospital until July and then until September they were having 2-3 times a week visits from the neonatal team due to poor weight gain (common with twins). One or other of them was nearly readmitted to the special care unit on a few occasions. I know every birth and newborn periods are different. But the multiple complications during the twins first 6 months were so much more challenging than in my single child.

YourLocal · 26/02/2024 20:59

My husband would look after them by then they would be a few months and my son doesn’t really care he absolutely loves England and wanted to go to a city I do ask the kids where they want to go it’s their decision

Is this thread real? You're leaving newborn twins in the UK whilst you holiday in the US???

nc42day · 26/02/2024 22:25

It's not real, no.

this thread is either just bonkers or just not true.

fwiw kids don’t call the shots for family hols at this age.

You want to travel overseas a few months after giving birth to twins and leave your babies at home with your husband because your daughter wants to go to NY?

Why can’t you postpone the trip, it will still be for her birthday but surely she can understand given she now has 2 new siblings.

canttellyouwhereorwhatido · 27/02/2024 06:39

I think we are all being wound up .. either that or OP is a fabulously wealthy woman who has a surrogate incubating 'the twins' that she has ambivalent feelings about. Alongside a saintly husband who isn't going to blink as she takes her ridiculously indulged older kids tripping off round the states when the babies are a few months old.

My money is on the wind up.

YourLocal · 27/02/2024 06:46

Now everyone is doubting that so I’m probably going to go somewhere nearer like London 😬

@YourLocal I do admire your optimisation (honestly). After having a single child I thought twins would just fit in. But the last month or so of my pregnancy was very hard (just the weight of the twins even made sitting painful and had to have a lie down every hour or so). Then when they were born my life for at least 6 months plus was turned upside down. For the few occasions my husband had to work away for a night or 2 I would get my mum to stay over to help. I know a lot of mum twin mums and they have all said the first 6 months they were in survival mode. Prior to having twins I thought how difficult could it be.... how wrong was I!

MermaidEyes · 27/02/2024 09:04

this thread is either just bonkers or just not true.

I'm beginning to think that. No mother in their right mind would leave a newborn baby at home surely, never mind twins?!

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 09:09

To be fair, if I had a newborn again, never mind two, and had the chance to go to away long haul, knowing DH could hold the fort, I'd take it like a shot Grin

YourLocal · 27/02/2024 20:37

I was always left alone as a young baby/child 😭

My thoughts exactly DD2 was a pain as a baby I was going to scream

Any state where women still have autonomy over their bodies.
