I’m in the UK. How can I organise a short break for DD who is in the USA

is there an equivalent to Tui in the USA?
or similar.

She and her friend are too young for booking.com or Airbnb (they all seem to insist on someone age 21 or 25 being at check in).

Any ideas gratefully received.

How old is she and what kind of break are you looking to book and where?

bananaapplepear · 24/02/2024 15:24

She is 19 and her room mate is 18..
Anything, just to get them away from uni for a few days.
Ideally beach and sunshine but i think finances might curtain that.

Looking at Spirit, which i believe is a little like our EasyJet, cheap flights tend to be indirect and you can have as much as a 7 hour layover which for a 4/5 day trip makes it a write off.

Which part of the US are they in?

bananaapplepear · 24/02/2024 15:42

Expedia is a US company- might want to look there?

WhatEverNextNow999 · 24/02/2024 15:53

Skyscanner.net covers US

Gherkingreen · 24/02/2024 15:56

We used to use Expedia or VRBO/Air BnB when we lived in the US but we were a family with adults/DCs so not sure if it'd work with older teens travelling alone. From Nashville can they travel by bus to the Carolinas? Gorgeous beaches, might still be a bit chilly though.

Fare Drop is USA/Canada based. You sign up and they send you daily deals on flights at great discounts. Sadly they aren't yet in the UK!!

Aquamarine1029 · 24/02/2024 16:13

Look at JetBlue packages out of Nashville.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/02/2024 16:14

Do not look at Spirit airlines (they are really bad), look at Southwest instead.

their ages may cause them a problem as most hotels have a minimum age restriction of 21 in order to make bookings.

mitogoshi · 24/02/2024 16:27

At that age I'm sure they can organise a trip - flights are easy to book and most young people prefer to travel to Mexico for holidays for obvious reasons. Cancun seemed to be the place friends kids went. Package holidays don't really exist.

GlasgowGal82 · 24/02/2024 17:56

I worked in the USA for the summer when I was 19 and booked a holiday to Las Vegas using expedia. Couldn't drink or gamble when I got there (too young!) but age wasn't a problem for flying or checking into a hotel.

Thanks for all your messages; much appreciated.

At that age I was in the US and just used to get the greyhound/ Amtrak and stay in hostels. Hostels were a lot more fun than hotels as you'd meet lots of people and they'd often organise trips.

Unfortunately you will need to check the T&Cs of each hotel individually to see if they will allow under 21s to check in. The hotel I stayed in on the Florida coast many years ago as a 19 year old is now strictly over 21.

You need to provide ID when you check in at any hotel so there’s no getting around it.

I did find this online which may help but do check with each hotel directly.

Florida Hotels with 18+ Check-In - Hotels for Youths

When looking to book a hotel in Florida as an 18-year-old, your options are limited. Luckily you do have a few options across various price ranges. In this guide, we’ll take a look through some of the more popular hotels. We’ve also included a section...

IF they can check in to a hotel they will also need a credit card, something else to consider.

As others have said, within the US its often flights and hotels.

As you are in the UK you aren't seeing the US google view - so hard say to see all the Spring Break deals or vacation packages.
It might be easier to give them a budget as for them to book somewhere.

If they've not been to DC that would be a good place -most of sights and museums are free, super easy and safe to get around and it's pretty iconic. Same with NY but it's way more expensive for sightseeing.

A Cancun AI is a good shout if they want a fly and flop. The hotels are a fab standard.
