Where to stay in London with 7yo

I'm looking for the holy grail... a not too expensive hotel to stay in with DD in summer holidays.

We're at the other end of the country so it's a long journey down, I'd like a nice area, easy enough to get to with luggage. I usually stay near Euston or Tower Hill, is there anywhere else cheaper/better suited that you can recommend please?

Oh... budget wise I'd really like to keep it under £150 a night...

Premier inn County Hall is our go to

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 23/02/2024 20:52

Have a look at Bankside, the LSE’s accommodation near Tate Modern. Not exactly a hotel, but a great location.

DanceMumTaxi · 23/02/2024 20:55

Sorry, we usually stay at the Premier Inn near Euston. It’s just so convenient.

FacingTheWall · 23/02/2024 20:57

We’ve stayed at the PI at Aldgate East a few times now. It’s usually one of the cheaper ones but it’s nice.

QueSyrahSyrah · 23/02/2024 20:58

There's a Premier Inn hub and a Travelodge opposite each other in the triangle created by Bank, Monument and Canon Street tube stations. Ideal for getting around.

Lifeistough74 · 23/02/2024 21:18

Holiday inn is better if you can afford the price they tend to be better there with more comfy beds , premier inn is good as well but they don't have the same as the holiday inn which is a really good served breakfast in the mornings

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 23/02/2024 21:20

Premier Inn Tottenham Hale or Premier Inn Angel. Enjoy.

birdbrained · 23/02/2024 21:26

Have a look at the Locke hotels. A few to choose from - all the rooms are studios. If you sign up you get 10% off.

JediKnightingale · 23/02/2024 21:28

Premier Inn Wembley Park - right next to the tube and you can be at Baker St in less than 15m. Right opposite Wembley stadium and the outlet mall is just round the corner. It’s usually considerably less £££ than the central London PI’s - as long as there is not an event at the stadium!

This is really cool if you can stay in a double? Or are there 2 adults?

I was looking at that one for taking DS(16) in August but have booked the Hyatt Place London City East - it's just along the road & was £565 for 4 nights & includes breakfast as opposed to PI looking for almost £700 with breakfast.

PeridotSparkle · 23/02/2024 21:39

Oh also cool for kids in the Olympic Park around £100

You can take your DC swimming in the Olympic pool and there's brilliant playgrounds there too op.

stressbucket1 · 23/02/2024 21:54

Yeah I like the county hall premier inn too. Child friendly restaurants near by on the South Bank plus the eye, shrek experience and aquarium right there. Easy walk over the bridge to st James Park. Hardly need to use the tube at all.

That looks really cool, thank you! Just me and DD, and she would love the funkiness of this!

Loads of great options, thank you. Too many to choose from so it just scrambles my brain.

Brixton PI was £60 in half term. It's right by the tube, Victoria Line, about 20 mknd to Victoria.

TizerorFizz · 24/02/2024 06:17

@flummingbird I would work back from what you went to see. Do you want to be out East at the Olympic Park if you want the museums in Kensington? Look at your top sights and work out travel arrangements. Then look where hotels are and how much money you save by being further out. Wembley is ??? It’s a fairly horrible location and doesn’t feel like London. Personally a low cost PI option at Euston or Kings Cross has more appeal. Far less effort when you arrive and lots more on the doorstep, including a lot of underground lines! You can get anywhere fairly quickly from Euston or KX.

december212 · 24/02/2024 07:17

Another vote for PI County Hall. Great base for the tourist sites and if able to walk, about an hour to the museums in Kensington, via St James Park and Buckingham Palace.

flummingbird · 24/02/2024 07:41

Thanks everyone. For my dates, county hall is more ££ than PI Euston.

Ibis Shoreditch comes up really cheap, is that an OK area?

Main attractions will be the big tourist spots, so Big Ben, Buckingham Palace etc, its her first time so she wants to see all the big hitters and I'll maybe get a matinee musical so all central.

OP posts:
TizerorFizz · 24/02/2024 07:46

@flummingbird Yes. Shoreditch has many restaurants! Very buzzy. But …. it’s overground and a long way east. Short hop to Whitechapel and Elizabeth Line though. Again, what do you want to see? It’s a long way to South Ken for example.

StevieKitten · 24/02/2024 12:02

I def agree re: Olympic Park. Rooms at Hyatt House have kitchens and sofa beds and stays include free breakfast and there are free on site laundry facilities, it’s a win for families like ours. There’s a direct train to KX which takes 7 mins, and it’s on the Jubilee and Elizabeth Lines so we can be in central London very easily. There are lots of parks in and around the Olympic park, lots of shopping and the best thing for us was the Aquatics and Velo Park - for cheap family mountain biking and aqua splash during the holidays. The hotel is newly refurbished, it’s beautiful.

I did a random date search and in the summer it came up about £100 a night- depending if a weekend etc. Its a 5min walk to Bethnal Green tube which is on the central line, and 1 stop from Liverpool st station and near Shoreditch. I haven't stayed at this hotel though. It was built about 10yrs ago and has a bar/restaurant/comedy club in the base.
It depends on what you are in London to see and do, as this will determine where to stay?

Bethnal Green isn't a traditional touristy area, but lots to see/do. The V&A childrens museum is 5min walk away and very interesting for young and old https://www.vam.ac.uk/young
If you are there on a Sunday, there is the Columbia rd flower markets and bricklane markets https://columbiaroad.info/
For a traditional (Italian) cafe, go to Pellicis. Its grade 2 listed and been used in many films. The food is great too. https://epellicci.co.uk/
