How much spending money for Venice?

DS is going on a school trip to Venice and Verona in April. How much spending money will he need roughly? This is just for lunch and dinner as breakfast is included in the accomodation. They have to pay when they go on the vaporetto too.
Have never been to italy so really not sure how much and all the stuff online seems to include acvomodation costs.

I'm surprised that the school has apparently not given you an indication of this.

Anyway, budget as if he was going to London and you should be OK.

Also, it might be a good idea talk to the school and make sure there is a way for you to get money to him, perhaps via them, in case of screwups. For example, perhaps you can send £100 to a teacher's account via BACS transfer and they will then take that out of a cash machine and give it to DS.

I’d budget at least £15/20 per meal, plus extra for spending money. Venice is one of my absolute favourite places in the world but it is pricey!

The school should give parents an indicative budget.

Can you get them a Monzo card and just keep topping it up? I didn’t use any cash in Venice.

75 Euros a day should cover breakfast, dinner, ice cream etc.

DM went to Venice last year and said prices were comparable to Rome. Therefore, from past experience of Rome, I’d allow €20 for dinner, €15 for lunch and €12 for bottled drinks and a snack. Sorry I can’t help with the Vaparetto.

Don't forget money for gelato!

The school may give an indication but they haven't yet and I wouldn't be surprised if they just say it's up to each family. We aren't in the UK. He has a bank card that I can top up and I am fairly sure he can use it across Europe. I will double check.
I just wanted to get a general idea as I am fairly sure eating out in northern italy will be more expensive than our cheap bit of Spain.

How long are they staying ? Young people can get a 72 hr vaporetto pass for 27e which is by far and away the most cost effective way of doing it.The cost of lunch and dinner will very much depend on where they go but I would allow 50-75e per day - you can get tramezzini and ciccetti very cheap (10 euros would buy you a great ciccetti lunch) but it depends where their teachers are taking them. 4e will get a massive 3 scoop ice cream from a good ice cream shop. You can fill water bottles easily in the city as there are lots of water fountains. Public loos are 1.5e a go ! It would be helpful to have an idea of where they will eat.
do they have to pay city tax separately or is that included in the trip ?

These are good points. I find Venice inexpensive, but I live somewhere expensive and my only costs are a vaporetto pass, museum entries, and good and drink, which are inexpensive if you are happy with ciccetti. As you say, it will depend where their teachers take them.

Its expensive! Ds did a 4 night school trip to Venice last May. The school recommended 10 euro a day (for lunch and drinks) as breakfast and Dinner were included, plus extra for souvenirs.
In reality, DS was spending 20 euros for a lunch of pizza and a cold drink. I'd allow at least 50 euro a day and there may become left over.
