Holland holiday park recommendations

I'm planning to take the kids (7 & 11) to Holland in the summer holidays, spend a couple of days at Efteling, some days sightseeing/having a general wander, and wanted to spend a week after that in a holiday park (likely last week of August). I'd like it to have a decent waterslide offering and have nice lodge/house type accommodation. What would be your suggestions? I'd been looking at Hof Van Saksen but had a wobble, so any advice on whether that would be a good choice most welcome too. Thanks!

Have you looked at the Dutch Center Parcs? We went to Port Zelande which wasn’t great to be honest but I believe some of the others are better. There’s a Facebook group called something like Center Parcs Europe Just For Brits which has lots of good advice. I also liked the look of Berksee Bergen.

Definitely Duinrell - it's got a great water park & theme park, my DC loved it a similar age. It has lodges with different levels of comfort. Book direct and you get free access to the theme park & water park.

It's about 1.5hrs from there to Efteling (which is brilliant). You can also stay at Efteling but the accommodation is much more expensive than Duinrell (which is quite reasonably priced in comparison to similar places)

Het Meerdal centre parcs. Absolutely brilliant. We went last year and loved it

Hof van Saksen is about the most expensive park you can go to, but amazing. Its not very close to the Efteling though. Have a look at Center Parcs the Kempervennen, they've got nice bungalows, waterpark and activities. in a forest setting. There are some cheaper options like Landal het Vennenbos, absolutely fine but a little dated. Duinrell is nice, but not the most relaxing break - if you're fans of lots of slides and wild water rides this is the place to go:)

Caulidop · 20/02/2024 22:52

Thanks so much all! I looked at Duinrell but reading reviews I worried it would feel a bit of a hectic/full on break, it would be nice to chill too! I'm keen to do rides and slides with the kids, but also to have a break from that. Would a week at Duinrell be too much?

I will look at the center parcs suggested thanks. Beekse Bergen looks ace too! I'm also happy to pay a bit more for Hof Van Saksen if it will be a good place to go, as it's later in August that I'm looking it's not too bad price wise. I also don't mind the drive. With Efteling I'm planning to stay on site for a couple of nights as with tickets it doesn't seem unreasonable for the less expensive accommodation options.

I obviously need more money to spend on holidays and more annual leave to fit all of these options in.

This park is amazing. I highly recommend it.

We went to Hof Van saksen last August and loved it. It's got so much to do and the restaurants and home order food was amazing. I didn't think it was bad value. The waterpark bit was sooo much fun. We had a lovely chilled day renting bikes. I liked the art work everywhere. I want to find somewhere else as good but there isn't anything as most other nice classy landal parks don't have the range of activities plus waterpark.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 20/02/2024 23:36

Hof van Saksen is good for water slides and also for little kids (fab play beach on the lake). It's also a very pleasant upmarket environment

We like one is the same area called Land Van Bartje - bit less posh and cheaper but still good quality. Nice houses, big pool with some slides (not as fancy as HVS but good). Scooter/bike track is hugely popular with kids. You could look at other Landal parks as well.

Both are much better accommodation than Centra Parcs in my opinion. Massively more spacious, detached houses with proper kitchen etc. Some Centre Parcs I've been to in NL are a bit grot, although I've heard good things about others.

Last week of Aug should be a good choice price wise. Enjoy!

We are going to Ter Spegelt for the last week of August - looks relaxing - a few lakes with beaches and water slides, indoor pool with slides and play area, pump track and good for cycling. We booked direct as the accomodation looked so nice - we have a chalet, but there are large, luxury 'tents' on the lake and on site, with hammocks. You can also book with Eurocamp which was a bit cheaper. Really looking forward to it!

We did a similar trip and went to Beekse Bergen. We liked it although felt the Speeland area was better for younger kids (I would say 11 or 12 is okay, it’s best for age 8 and under). The pools and Safari park were fun though.

We did like Port Zelande - a bit run down/limited but we were blessed with beautiful weather so we had a lot of time on a massive virtually empty beach.

Btw - Plopsaland de Panne theme park is absolutely worth a day trip whilst you’re in that part of the world!

Just found this thread, we are thinking about booking up for TerSpegelt for this summer. We have a 7 year old son and previously we have tried to find sites with something going on in the evening (even just a place where people congregate and have a drink / something to eat) in order for him to be able to play on a nighttime. Anyone that has been to TerSpegelt before, do you know if it has this sort of a vibe? Thanks in advance

We spent a week in August in Duinrell with 8, 9 and 11 year olds. They said it was the best holiday they ever had.

CautiousOptimist · 02/01/2026 19:40

CenterParcs De Kempervennen, we went last summer for a week. Fantastic place. Great pool, fun activities, or you can rest.

confusedlots · 02/01/2026 19:49

We did Center Parcs erperheide in Belgium when we did Efteling and really enjoyed it

They are building a new entertainment complex over winter, I'd have thought there would be loads to do in it. Even without it that there is plenty of options. There are a couple of restaurants, cafes food stalls etc.
I would download the app , on it is the daily activities you can get an idea what is going on. It's a great place, the local town Eersaal has a very nice ice cream shop.

NoLostCause · 03/01/2026 08:18

We stayed at Landal Het Vennebos last year. There’s a really great water park on site, nice lively square in the evening. We did day trips to Efteling and Beekse Bergen (about 30/40 minutes) and also spent a day in Antwerp. Great cycle routes around as well and easy to hire out bikes etc.

BendingSpoons · 03/01/2026 09:05

We loved Duinrell but it is essentially a theme park, so probably a more similar type of holiday to Efteling. You have to book slots in the pool. We stayed Fri to Mon and got 2x 2 hours in the indoor pool, or you could have 4 hours in the outdoor pool instead. For my pool mad daughter this wasn't really enough, as she wanted to go every day. (You can buy more, but the indoor pool particularly is pricey). The rides were good and they loved being able to wander into the rides area before it opened and being front of the queue. There are also good playgrounds that are open early.

People do stay there for a week. You can visit the beach, Den Haag (the Hague), Amsterdam and there is a small town 5 mins walk away with some nice restaurants. However I have the sort of child who would find it hard to chill on the beach when the rides are available! (We had stayed 4 nights in Den Haag and then went to Duinrell). Ours were too young to go off alone, but we saw lots of parents chilling by the lodges whilst presumably their older children did that.

We booked a premium lodge direct and it was nicer than the Eurocamp ones mainly because it was less packed in.

Inthepark · 03/01/2026 09:49

There were a few low key evening activities when we stayed - mini disco, a quiz (in Dutch though so we didn't participate) and kids activities in the dark. We tended to have a drink on the lovely restaurant terrace looking over the lake whilst the children played on scooters/ bouncing pillow etc. The new complex looks great and has bowling in there along with restaurants and an area for entertainment. The App is brilliant or you can email them and ask, they are super friendly!
