Istanbul with kids

Have 9 year old twins boys. We're thinking of maybe 4 days in Istanbul then a week in Fethiye this summer but is Istanbul good for kids? I'm a little bit concerned about safety but not sure if I'm being ridiculous, since we live in London and definitely don't think twice before days (or nights!) out in town here. Is it safe? Would you take your kids? It looks AMAZING. I think I might be worrying because of the fact that it borders some seriously dangerous places but then Istanbul is obviously no where near the trouble zones. Would appreciate others opinions. Thank you!!

Istanbul is amazing, and although I’ve not taken kids, I’m sure they’d love it. Just take the same precautions as you’d take in any large city. Food is fabulous!

It's somewhere I've always wanted to go but didn't get around to before we had kids. My grandparents lived a very glamorous jet setting life and my granny always said Istanbul was one of her favourite places she'd ever been 😊

Istanbul is one of my favourite world cities .

My sons are now in their 40s - we first went when they were around 6 & 9. I have memories and photos of us at the major tourist attractions, various restaurants, eating deep-fried mackerel sandwiches at the quay, on commuter ferries up the Bosphorus to picturesque seaside towns.

They had a great time - Turkey is a very child-friendly country.

Thanks for your thoughts both of you. I think it's potential terrorism that I'm worried about rather than whether the kids would like city - I'm sure they would. And yes I know Turks love kids. But then I think London could have a terrorist attack anyway, right? And I can't say I worry about that. Ever.

One if my favourite city's- depends what your kids like doing- it's not got conventional 'kids' 'attractions' like theme parks or water parks but great for sightseeing and excellent food- we took our son at 14 and he enjoyed it a lot
