Winter holiday with elderly mum

My mum would absolutely love to go somewhere with guaranteed snow before she gets too old for it. We live in the SW and rarely even get frost these days. She is physically well apart from arthritis and she does walk with a stick. I am a bit concerned about her slipping on ice.

Is there anywhere suitable for Feb half term for 2x teens and someone in their late 70s. Teens are quite easy to please and would just love to see some proper snow.

what’s your budget? If you are prepared to throw money at your holiday, then I would recommend Wengen or Grindelwald in the Berner Oberland of Switzerland. Beautiful scenery, lots to do beside skiing, although your boys might like to ski or snowboard. There are lots of flights to Zürich or Geneva, with rail transfer (on very civilised and punctual trains).
There are lots of excursions that can be done from these resort villages, and there are walking and toboggan paths, lovely cafés and mountain restaurants, cable cars and snowshoeing.
Switzerland is expensive, especially at half term, though you can mitigate some of the costs by going self catering, or even renting a chalet on the amazing Camping Jungfrau campsite in Lauterbrunnen, in the valley below Wengen. You can buy a rail and lift pass to cover your transport around the mountains, and a resort transfer rail tickets. You can even pay for your luggage to be transferred from your UK departure airport to your destination railway station, so you only carry your hand baggage on the trains.
Make sure your Mother (well all of you really) have good walking or snow boots with non-slip soles, and Mum has walking poles, ideally with a spike as well as a ferrule. Get good thermal sock and maybe some hand/foot warmers if you think she might need them, though the weather should be ok in late February.

That does sound lovely. Willing to pay up to £1,200 each which is a spurge for us.

We’ve booked Norway for this time next year for that exact reason. Snow!!! And the northern lights obviously. We’ve done it for £1,150 each.

I’d love to hear about the Norway holiday. Was that a package or independent? A tour or based in one location?

Iceland is lovely! You can see the Icelandic ponies; go and bathe in hot springs; see giant waterfalls and black beaches (with ice on!); see the Northern Lights…

Ruled out Iceland as not guaranteed to get snow. I’ve been and would absolutely love to go again. My daughter is there now and it’s been cold, deep snow and blue skies. Temperature due to be low of 4 by this weekend so it’s luck whether you get proper snow or not. I took my mum to Germany 4 years ago to an winter sports area and there was no snow in Feb half term.
