Hello,

Can anyone please recommend the best sandy beaches in the canaries. First trip to the canaries and undecided which island to try. Family resort for two under 5's. Thank you

Fuerteventura wins hands down.

Lanzarote, Playa Flamingo!!
We love the Iberostar which can be pricey try the TUI Flamingo Bay!

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote had some lovely beaches. We stayed at the Rubicon Palace and it was a short walk to the beach at Playa Flamingo with a beautiful wee cove.

I have to disagree about Lanzarote. I was at the Iberostar hotel last month and Flamingo beach is tiny and man made. It's also stony, I swam in the sea there and you needed shoes due to the black pebbles. (I think it gets washed away occasionally). It was busy in January, can't imagine summer.
Flag beach on Fuertaventura however is the biggest most beautiful beach I have ever been to in 50 years of travelling. Miles and miles of white sand.

Flag Beach is a sand beach located near Corralejo in Spain.

El cotillo on Fuerteventura. The island doesn't have much on it, but when it comes to beaches it wins hands down. El cotillo beach is stunning.

@Shudacudawuda @Soupit both sound perfect, can you recommend any hotels?

Sorry I can't, we booked an apartment in El Cotillo direct with the owners.
El Cotillo is very small and quiet, I don't think it has any large hotels (another big plus in my book!). If you're able to hire a car though, the island is quite small so you can explore the beaches at your leisure. These are some of my photos, just heaven.

Me neither. Our last visit was 6 years ago and we stayed in the RUI hotel on the beach which is a fantastic location but the food was disappointing and it has terrible reviews now.. Lots of good hotels in Corralejo. We went with adult DC and hired a car. DS1 drove and while it was scenic it's a very small island so not a huge amount to see.
We stayed B&B many years ago when DC were little at a( Dunas?) hotel but they hated the salt water pool. Other than that it was a good family hotel and lots of great restaurants to eat out.
It's got the best beaches in the Canaries though if that's your wish!

I’m surprised by the love for fuerteventura here for little ones. We loved it but the beaches in the south are surfer beaches so there were big waves. Great fun for my older dc who are strong swimmers but I wouldn’t have let little children near. Is the north of the island different?

playa Blanca beaches (along from flamingo bay nearer the town are beautiful, shallow and very safe.

We’re trying out Gran Canaria this year and going here (which has great reviews and in-laws raves about the beach… although they felt cafés were expensive but they think everything is expensive so I’ve ignored that)
