Fuerteventura/Lanzarote resort recommendations

We’re thinking of booking a holiday to one of these islands next month. There’s a good choice of hotels available but I don’t know anything about the various resorts. Does anyone have any particular recommendations? It will be just me and DH.

This is all for Lanzarote: the south of the island is much warmer and that will be important at this time of year! (Think this is true for all canaries).

Playa Blanca is nice - it has a long promenade and lots of places to eat/drink as well as decent shops

Costs Teguise will be windy and might be a bit cold.

Drive all over the island if you can, there is great architecture as well as the volcano. Lots to see!

@Seatbeltconundrum thank you!

We go to Lanzarote (Costa Teguise) every year and for the last 3 years including this year have gone in March. Can't have asked for better weather. Had 1 day of torrential rain and when I say day it was an hour or so in that day. Then it was blue skies and you'd be none the wiser. It does get cooler at night but I wear a summer dress with either a cardigan or denim jacket and I'm absolutely fine. We stay just on the outskirts where it's about a 20 mins walk to the main square where all the restaurants and bars are. The beaches are always full of people but we prefer sunning ourselves at the hotel. We do go for a wander to the beach most days though. It is windy but certainly not cold and this can also be very deceiving and you can see a lot of very burnt people. I use factor 30 every day.

Thanks @Plump82.

We like Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, although it was very windy last time we went. We also like Corralejo in Fuerteventura (ironically less windy!) - It's a bit busier on the one hand, but also has quite a chilled out hippy vibe along the seafront.

We went to the far south of fuerterentura, the resorts are pretty small, we rented a car and saw the island - I'd say it more suited to ai holidays where you don't leave much

Lanzarote we stayed in Playa de Los Pocillos. Hotel was 5 mins from the airport so short transfer. The resort was small, handful of bars/restaurants/shop. A 20 minute walk down to Matagorda which we also liked. You could see the planes coming in on an evening if you like that sort of thing. Could also walk into Puerto del Carmen in an hour - I hated Puerto del Carmen though so only did that once!

I've been to both islands many times. DH and I used to go every winter before DC in the 80s and 90s and have started doing the same now DC are grown up.

In march you can expect warm sunny days, cooler evenings and an occasional half day of cloud or a spot of rain. It's always windy.
What do you like? Complete tranquility? Sightseeing? A lively bar on an evening?
Looking for hotel or apartment?

If you like sightseeing then Lanzarote wins hands down. If you are a beach lover then Fuerta has one of the best beaches I've ever been to.

Corralejo is a compact busy resort with lots of bars with live music.
Playa Blanca is a family resort in summer but less so in March. Very long promenade, lovely to walk along. Hotels somewhat spread out but some great hotels.
Puerto Del Carmen is more central for trips out and has amazing restaurants and good nightlife.

Another fan of Playa los Pocillos in Lanzarote.

bruffin · 07/02/2024 14:07

We stayed in Costa Teguise last march and weather was lovely. I loved Lanzarote we visited all the Cesar Manrique sites , the Volcanos and the Viewpoint.

Fuertuventura- we went to Jandia in Feb 22 and going to Corallejo next month. I dh wants to go back just for the cheesecake at the Museum of Cheese!

Funderthighs · 07/02/2024 14:34

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I have to say that I’m drawn to the idea of a Museum of Cheese @bruffin. We’re quite easily pleased @Lilacshade, we like to walk, spend some time on the beach and to do a bit of people watching. We don’t tend to go AI as we like to try out local restaurants and use our holiday spends outside of hotels though we do like to book somewhere with bed & breakfast.

Corralejo would suit for people watching and choice of restaurants.
Jayne MacDonald did a series recently on the Canaries. Worth a watch for ideas and she doesn't sing!

bruffin · 07/02/2024 16:15

@Funderthighs The beach we were near in Jandia was Esquinzo which was lovely , although it was next to a nudest area! We stayed in an AI and although there seemed some nice bars/restuarants on the beach there wasnt much else around.
The cheese museum is charming , with a cacti garden and as previously said the cheesecake is to die for.

Staying in Playa Blanca for a week with our nine year old twins. Is a boat trip to FUERTEVENTURA worth it or not , obviously wouldn’t have a car on arrival . Thanks

Lilacshade · 28/07/2025 15:35

@Twinsgranny No.
The boat trip would take you to Corralejo, which I love for a holiday but there's nothing there you can't find in PB.
If you really want to go I'd recommend a taxi to Playa Grande which is a few miles out of town and possibly the most magnificent beach ever.
The town beaches in PB and Corralejo are poor IMO.
