...that won't break the bank.

UK to the US. We've checked the BA/American, Virgin/Delta/KLM groups.

Any other suggestions please?

TIA

Look at jetBlue, or if you're willing to have a connection, Aer Lingus and Icelandair.

United. Jet Blue but their direct routes are limited to I think NY and Boston. Aer Lingus can also be good as some of the Irish airports have the option to go through US immigration there, so you make full use of the connection time and then land as a domestic passenger. The best deals are probably with connections though and then any short haul portion of the flight isn’t going to be proper business class e.g. AA’s domestic first class is the same seat they use for premium economy long haul.

APMom6 · 07/02/2024 16:33

With aer Lingus you can book economy and then if there are business seats available you can bid for them. We paid €380 each for our business seats to DC this time last year on top of the €180 we’d paid in economy- that was one way. I wouldn’t bother paying for th way home.

Luck of the draw. Compare on google flights.
Especially if you aren't loyal to any particular airline group.

fly from Dublin
use ITA matrix
be flexible on dates

or all 3

Upgrade at the airport can be much cheaper but not guaranteed.
I've done this several times with Qatar.
When flying this January, to the Caribbean, I noted Virgin were offering cheaper Upper Class upgrades at the airport however if you're flying with someone else you may not be seated together.

As an aside (which you nay already know), BA's business class isn't great so I'd only go for them if the price is comparably cheaper than the others.

Delta & Virgin, AirFrance BC is decent.

Us is huge. Whereabouts?

GreatGateauxsby · 08/02/2024 07:21

If you want direct from London I have only done virgin and BA.

Virgin was miles ahead of BA...

BA business is pretty basic bitch on general IMO though...

bananaapplepear · 08/02/2024 15:13

thank you all for the suggestions. We're not very flexible on the dates (in fact, going out we have no flexibility at all) so it's not been the easiest.

We've left it really late too which I know is a huge negative.

I'm glad it's been commented that Virgin is way better than BA as we really enjoyed BA Club last year but we've now gone for Virgin this time.

I'm going to book ahead for our next trip (we'll be going there regularly for the next few years) and look at the via Dublin option. I adore Dublin so could be a double positive 😀

Thanks again

What about Norse?

judgementfail · 08/02/2024 22:12

Virgin then BA.

Don't even think about the US carriers they are mainly awful (AA, United, Delta).

Dartmoorcheffy · 08/02/2024 22:14

Premium economy with Virgin is fantastic . I've flown to LA and San Fran twice and loved it
