Free water in resort hotels

Bit of a noob question: is it normal to get free water/water stations in resort hotels? Does it differ by country?

I'm reading some reviews of Greek hotels in particular where people have to pay for water, which is a bit offputting. I've been to a hotel on Mallorca where their were stations and jugs dotted around for free use. What's the norm?

It varies from hotel to hotel but in Switzerland and Austria you normally have to pay for tap water.

It does vary but in resorts there is generally a shop nearby where large bottles of water are very very cheap (like under 1 euro) so even in places with free water I’d often buy a couple of those to have in the room/by the sun lounger.

I'd only expect free beverages on an all inclusive package.

People don't generally drink tap water in Greece, as far as I'm aware, so they wouldn't necessarily have any "free" tap water to give you.

If you go all inclusive you get free bottles of water from the bar. Otherwise you might just get a small free bottle in your room when you arrive that is not replaced.

I hadn't remembered about not drinking Greek tap water. That makes sense.

It causes a lot of issues in hotels and restaurants abroad . In the UK they are obliged by law to offer free tap water but that's not the case elsewhere.
I drink the tap water in any country including Greece unless it's not potable. Pretty sure any EU country has to have drinkable water in the taps.

All inclusive would cover it.
We recently stayed in an Iberostar hotel and there were flasks in the room and water stations all around the hotel. However they still charged for water in the restaurant! This was in the Canaries where the water is desalinated seawater.

In Spain and the Canaries we got bottled water for the room from either the bar or Reception.

In Rhodes we got an initial 3 bottles but that was it, for more we had to pay. There was also no way to fill a bottle, no water fountains or similar.

We had a rental car and when we were out we stopped and grabbed a 6 pack to take back (we weren't the only ones)

Varies. Just boil the tap water and drink if you don't want to pay for it.

If there is a gym check it out as often even if they xharge for water it's free in the gym, take your bottles fill up and take back to room.
