Budapest with tweens in April

Booked flights for Budapest for April with tweens.

We are staying four nights - is this a bit too long?

Where should we stay? Budget about £200 pounds a night. Would prefer separate rooms or a suite as they are beginning to outgrow the sofa bed options!

We would love to go to the baths but I have read that they don’t allow under 14s. Is this right?

Any other recommendations with 10 & 12 year olds gratefully received!

We stayed recently in an airbnb it was beautiful slept 6 in 3 en-suite bedrooms. We paid £450 for 3 nights. I think 3 nights was plenty. We also had the Christmas markets

We stayed at the impulso fashion hotel with similar age kids and it was perfect for the price. We all got proper beds in a big enough room. No kids can't go in the baths save for one outdoor one which was closed when we went. Did 3 nights and wish we'd had another, loved it. Public transport is really straightforward.

This might be helpful. Under-14s are allowed in the outdoor pools but not the thermal baths. You'll know your DC better than anyone - will they be happy with a few hours of relaxation in the water or will they be bored after 10 minutes? It's not a cheap option if you are in and out very quickly.

Can Children Go to Szechenyi Baths - Szechenyi Bath FAQ - Szechenyi Baths

Many thanks for the links above! Does anyone have links to the ‘official’ bath booking sites - especially the child friendly ones and the Parliament site too? I did wonder if 4 nights was too long but we spent 5 in Berlin and probably could have done another few.

Cake and coffee house recommendations also gratefully received!

The owner has quite a few different apartments so worthwhile checking her other properties x

Depending when you go the outdoor baths may be closed, they do reopen sometime in April. It's the one linked above on margaret island where kids are allowed outside.

We stayed here through Airbnb. It was in a great location and so spacious with 3 double rooms, and amazing ceiling height!! We loved Budapest and ate well every night. Do not take a taxi off the street though as they will rip you off.

Oh it’s such an amazing city! We stayed in an apartment booked through Booking.com, similar arrangement to airbnb.

Re the thermal baths - once you check in, they don't generally “police” which pools you enter - so unless your DDs look particularly young, it’ll be fine.

The area around the Szechenyi baths is lovely too - it’s in a massive park right beside the zoo with great outdoor cafes etc. Use Bolt to get taxis, it’s cheap as chips and basically the same as Uber.

For night time entertainment, the evening vampire walking tour around the castle is brill, I’d really recommend it for that age group. The larger cinema chains often show movies in English too. I wouldn’t bother with the evening Danube cruise as it’s all a bit packed and the sights are much nicer to see by foot if you don’t mind walking.
