Ideas for cheapish SC summer holiday with kids?

Where would you go abroad with two kids, 10 and 15, who don't like hot weather that is warm, interesting, lots to do (sightseeing, not sport) this summer? Need to keep it fairly cheap (5k max including all spending), happy to do a caravan but no tents! Also happy to hire a car.

We did Lanzarote last year but it was too hot for youngest who doesn't remember going abroad pre pandemic so it's used to drizzly UK holidays.

How about the alps? Lots to do, weather should be nice but not too hot?

I looked them up and it seems it would be a very sporty holiday which really isn't our thing.

Hi
Does anyone have a good experience taking away my autistic child (12 year old boy) on a summer holiday?
Where is a good place to go which is extremely close to a sandy beach and a hotel with a swimming pool and doesn’t cost the earth to stay?
Thank you

Black Forrest in Germany. Lots to see and do including Europa Park Baden-Baden Rastatt Schloss Hasen Horn Coaster ....
You can go self catering towards end of August should not be to expensive for a week for 4.

The Vendee in France. Perfect climate, loads of campsites with varying types of accommodation.

Black Forest is a good shout. Or somewhere like Jura, Dordogne, Ardeche, Lake Garda? I'd look up the options on Eurocamp (or similar - there's lots of different companies but Eurocamp is a useful starting point), see what sort of sightseeing appeals to you and narrow down your search. Do you want mountains, countryside, beach, city etc.

For something completely different, you could do a self drive tour around Iceland. It's been a few years since we went so I don't know what prices are like now, but you can keep costs to a minimum by self catering. Not sure if too cold for you though?

Perhaps Madeira or the Azores? They tend to be a bit cooler than the Canaries but not sure if there's enough to keep the children interested.

Could also look at Center Parcs, maybe De Kempervennen. There's plenty on site plus a few theme parks and other attractions for days out.
