Amsterdam 3-day trip with teenagers - tips?

We're going on a family holiday with my three kids aged 11 to 16. 5 days but only three full ones. We're staying outside the city in an AirBnB with bikes, so the idea is to cycle into Amsterdam and back everyday (40 mins each way).

What are some must-do things kids of this age will enjoy? Any nice restaurants you recommend? They are quite adventurous with food.

Thanks!

Thanks! I've thought about the Wondr museum that someone else on this thread recommended. Will it appeal to a 16-year old?

Hmmmm good question - it’s different rooms where you can take cool pictures - good for Instagram pics mainly, so depends if she’s into that - we laughed a lot!

Rijstaffel is an absolute must for food though check reviews carefully as it can be very in and out/tourist focused. I've had good and bad experiences. Actually that is very much my Amsterdam food experience overall - you may actually be better doing your main meal where you're staying at least once.

The boat tours are much of a muchness but totally amazing. If you take the ferry over for A'dam tower then eat at pllek.

Came on to recommend foodhallen and rijstafel.

We enjoyed the museum of our Lord in the attic. It's a house church from I think 17th century. It's interesting and different We spent a couple of hours. My 13yo and 9yo enjoyed the childrens tour guide. It's in the red light district (well its hard to miss as red light so central) and we put the kids on pokemon go to distract them from the odd underwear clad lady in a window!!!

Have chips for lunch. There's a couple of amazing places. We joined a random queue and ended up with the best chips ever.

Pancakes Amsterdam at the back of the station on the River is a great one of this chain to eat at.

The kids loved the rubber duck store in 9 streets. I prefer that tO the one near Dam square.

For boat trips as adults on our own we hired a private tour which Id recommend rather than go on a crowded boat. You can tour from near the station, the rijksmuseum or we got one from Anne Frank House with the DC which was quiet on an August day. We all enjoyed it.

I agree about Utrecht, or depending where you are staying, Haarlem might be possible by bike.
