Dh are having our first child free week-end together in 9 years. Yippeeeeeeee!!

We are hoping to go to Paris in April.

I would like to stay somewhere around Bastille, but anywhere central would be good.

Has anyone stayed anywhere nice recently that they could recommend?

TIA

yes

61 rue dauphine, it's in St Germain, and great access to nearly everywhere

MorocconOil · 21/03/2008 12:38

Thanks Bluesky. It looks very promising.

Hotel Verneuil in the 7th.

Bastille is grim

Have stayed three times in the last year or so in different hotels in the St Germain des Pres area - all very nice. Unfortunately can't remember names of any of them (!) but am going to find them and get back to you. St Germain is a very nice, centrally located area in general.

MorocconOil · 21/03/2008 12:45

Why is it grim? I went a few years ago and there were some great bars.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Bastille has good clubs with kate opening if you want to get rat arsed!

MorocconOil · 21/03/2008 12:51

I'm not bothered about clubbing, but we found a great street with lots of little bars that were really quirky. I wish I could remember the name of the street though.

rue de Lappe

Anna8888 · 21/03/2008 12:55

rue Keller?

Anna8888 · 21/03/2008 12:56

Bastille good at night for bar hopping but very very grim in the day - awful architecture...

Why not stay somewhere beautiful and just go off bar hopping after dark?

MorocconOil · 21/03/2008 13:04

Oh yes Anna, I think it was rue de Lappe. Just googled it and it looks familiar. Thank you very much.
We did just go there after dark and I'd drunk quite a bit so probably didn't notice the architecture.

My ideal place to stay would be quite small, plainly decorated, but quite quirky(can you see a quirky theme here) and centrally located in a smallish street.

Can you think of anywhere that fits the bill?

Don't get your hopes up - Paris tourist accommodation is crap, there hasn't been enough reinvestment for years and most two and three star hotels are dowdy and worn.

Hôtel Verneuil isn't, which is lovely, and it also has a sister hotel near the Palais Royal which you might prefer on the right bank. Google it and take a look.

MorocconOil · 21/03/2008 13:14

I like the look of that one more. Hotel Verneuil looks a bit frilly for me.

Wish I could remember where we stayed last time. My memory is appalling.

We've stayed in the Villa Pantheon via Last Minute.com. It was a nice hotel in a good location - although the room was very small.

The road we liked, full of restaurants and bars was Rue Mouffetard. We stayed in a wee cheap hotel close to there once - but I can't remember its name(or I'd have recommended it if oyu wanted somewhere chepa and cheerful - and there was a great wee cafe just besdie it which did a lovely French brakfast of freshly squeezed orange juice and pains au chocolat)

am off to Paris on saturday and we are staying in Hotel College De France in the Latin Quarter which was recommended by a fellow mumsnetter.

i stayed at a vaguely upscale hotel in Montmartre (highly recommed area, lots of walks, brill food shops) a few years back) was quite expensive but nice room with view of eiffel tour and the montmartre cemetery

TheHonEnid · 07/04/2008 13:24

Terrasse

MorocconOil · 07/04/2008 13:37

Thanks Enid, it looks really nice but I'd like to be in walking distance of the bars around Bastille.
