2 adults 2 kids - which seats on airplane

My youngest turned 2 and we have two trips planned this year. One long haul and one short haul. What’s the best constellation to sit? 1 adult and 1 child on rows next to each other or behind each other.
or 2 kids and 1 adult and the other adult across the isle? or DH and kids together and me 20 rows behind 😂😜

Older child is good on planes and can entertain themselves with books and ipad. Just not sure what makes most sense in terms of seat booking (yes I will book
seats not asking anyone to swap!)

I would suggest 1 adult with both children and the other adult across the aisle. That way you adults can swap if needs be but if not you are all in same row and visual to all.

Is the short haul first?

Sonora25 · 03/02/2024 16:48

Yes short haul first. I think DC2 will be easier to handle when with DC1 and then adults can swap but my friend told me they always do 2 plus 2 so wasn’t sure anymore. I have to book seats for long haul now but I assume I could change again if needed.

I agree with anneofclevage above. 2 kids and one adult together and the other across the aisle. Then the adults swop around as required. Sitting 2x2 is a pain for everyone

Well I’d be in favor of DH with the kids and me 20 rows away, but realistically 1 parent with 1 child behind each other would be good.

For the long haul do they have 4 seats in the middle? That’s what we always had for our long haul so we’d book that. It gave the kids a bit of space to stretch out.

Caspianberg · 03/02/2024 16:51

I would do 3 and 1 in same row.
That way you have one row dedicated to just your family if 2 year old is in faff and climbing mode. And then can swap adults over if you get adults both aisle seats next to eat other. Adults can easily talk to each other. Adult sitting alone might get 30 mins to read then swap.

i just give mine iPad and Millions of snacks and short haul flights are easy

When we flew in September it was me, DH, DD1 aged almost 4 and DD2 aged 1.5 and we did the 3 seats together and 1 across the aisle. It definitely worked better for us and we'll be doing the same this year

That's what we do

When dds were 2 and 4 and again 6 and 8 we did me and both kids together and dh accords the isle. They would only be asking for me all of the time anyway. The last time Dh ended up having the row to himself so laid out in the 3 seats with headphones in!!!! 😡😡😡

Kangaboo · 03/02/2024 16:56

We have always done kids +1 adult then the other parent in row across aisle seat. Then swap for the return leg. Only done short haul. Works well.

No unfortunately not on this plane. It’s 3 rows of 3 seats.

I am tempted to book myself in the back 😂

We’ve done 3+1 -putting kids next to each other by window and other adult across the aisle and also 2+2. 2+2 better when older as kids can sit by themselves in front of parents who can keep an eye. 3+1 better when small.

InTheRainOnATrain · 03/02/2024 17:50

3+1 on both flights. Parent 1 in the window, then toddler, then older kid, Parent 2 across the aisle on standby to the help older one (no sleeping with earplugs in!). Parent 1 and Parent 2 swap every 2 hours on the long haul if it’s a day flight to ensure they get the equal pleasure of entertaining the little one, then a chance to be semi off duty and can try watch a film or have a glass of wine whilst also being on hand for loo trips/snack opening for the eldest.

@Sonora25 I flew with my daughter and her two young kids. both kids got the window seat on two consecutive rows and one adult sat with one kid. it meant that both kids could still talk to mum and each other as well as me. they loved having a window seat each. 2 year old and 3.5 year old/
