I’m actually bricking it 😂 I’m grossly under traveled and this is my first ever long haul flight (that’s a whole other thread…13 hours?! I have the attention span of a gnat!) but I have the opportunity to fly to Singapore for 2 weeks with work. Due to the nature of the job there will be a fair amount of time to explore, mainly in the evenings but a good amount in the daytime too

Where should I go?! Is it easy to get around?! Will I be ok with v v little understanding of the language?!

argh!

TIA!

English is widely spoken in Singapore. There is an excellent public transport network consisting of trains and buses.

I would recommend a visit to Gardens by the Bay and the Jurong bird park.

You've nothing to worry about. Singapore is Asia for beginners. English is widely spoken, it's incredibly law-abiding and it's easy and cheap to get around.

My first ever visit to Asia was a 3 week work trip to Singapore. Like you, I was a bit nervous and felt out of my depth but it turned out to be super-easy. You'll love it! (It was a long time ago for me and I've lived and worked in Asia for years but that first ever trip holds special memories for me).

Make sure you pop into Raffles for a cocktail. And enjoy the great street food!

Singapore is a great place for a first adventure. English is widely spoken, the food is fantastic (newton food centre is worth an visit) and the climate is lovely. It’s really easy to get an around. If you have a free evening I recommend doing the night zoo (randomly) it was great fun.

Oh my gosh, I'd love two weeks in Singapore paid for by work!

It's incredibly easy to navigate, virtually everything is in English/translated into English. It's safe, squeaky clean, ultra organised and reliable, yet with enough of the exotic and 'difference' left to feel exciting.

Eat a load of satay on Clarke Quay for me.

Oh thank you so much!

These have made me feel loads better!

It was optional (kind of, in a you don’t have to but you do 😂) but it felt like too good an opportunity to miss!

Now I want to go back to Singapore. Which is an expensive want to have!

As a first-time tourist in Singapore I would do: Night Safari (this can be done after work), Gardens by the Bay, Raffles for a Singapore Sling, Lau Pa Sat (Hawker Centre), eat or drink in Marina Bay Sands and have a walk around Marina Bay, visit Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, visit a beach club in Sentosa if that's your kind of thing. Visit Little India. Orchard Road if you like shopping.

Myself and wife went to Singapore for 3 days as part of our Honeymoon 10 years ago so might be slightly out of date however we really enjoyed a few things,

Fort Canning park - Beautiful park in the city an amazing escape from the hustle and bustle, We Walked around this park every morning with a iced coffee.

Little India. The food was incredible and cheap and so so many things to see including the Buddah Tooth Relic Temple.

There is also a free light show on the Merlion park over the water every evening and is well worth a watch for free.

Clarke Quay is a really nice vibe for evening drinks,

We also did the night safari at the Zoo and again really enjoyed it!

Sentosa Island is your go to for entertainment Cassios Theme Parks and beaches.

We also wanted to go to the Gardens on the bay but ran out of time... This still grates on both of us to this very day!

Make sure you go see as much as you can enjoy it pack an umbrella.

In regards to language you will get on fine.

Used the metro as its the cheapest and super efficient travel method!

Also take some time in the airport it's literally the best one in the world!

Have an amazing time OP im super envious of you!

I agree that Singapore is Asia for beginners Grin In fact I would go further and say that Singapore is Everywhere for beginners!

It is super safe and clean, everything works efficiently and exactly as it should, all transport is completely sensibly laid out and easy to navigate, taxi drivers are scrupulously honest, all signage etc is in English (and everybody speaks English). Even the electric sockets are UK-type, so you don't need adaptors.

Enjoy!
