Butlins for toddlers?

Cluelessfirstimer · 30/01/2024 20:42

Looking to go to butlins for my DS's 2nd birthday so June. We can't get time off around the toddler weekends unfortunately. Probably week of 10th June.

Totally new to holidays with kids so bear with me if I ask a silly question

Looking for advice as there is no info for that week I can see online. Its letting me book the week but I cant see much info.

Is it a bad time to go with a toddler? Purposely avoiding school holidays.
Is there much for them to do?
Seems a lot of the extra pre book stuff is for older kids.

Wanting to book soon for time off work requests and to just pay now

Any advice would be great. Probably be Bognor as it's closest to us

Honestly Butlins is made for young children. I'd say 4-6 years is prime age but your little one will be ok although it might be a little overwhelming. The vast majority of day time shows are for tiny children, Thomas the Tank Engine, Fireman Sam etc, the swimming pool splash zone, the fun fair might not have much he can go on but there is a little one inside too and he should be able to sit on the carousel with you either on a horse or in a carriage.

If you go stay in the Hotel, there is one aimed at younger children where you can put Billy Bear to bed. If he wears a birthday badge he'll get lots of attention from the Red Coats and if you tell the Hotel reception you'll get a card delivered to your room and slipped under the door from Billy Bear.

The optional extras really are just that, there is so much to do you really dont need to add on pottery classes etc. We did do character breakfast for DDs 3 rd birthday and a few other character meals which were worth it. It's been a while but I'm sure there were free child and parent arts and crafts sessions for little ones in the crèche area. There are lots of parks on sight, sand pits, the beach just a short walk away. At just turned 2 I'd imagine he'll be napping alot too.

I went with our 1 and 3 year old, there’s loads to do for toddlers, shows, fairground, pool, arcade

BUT the accommodation is absolutely filthy, we will probably go back for a day visit but never stay there again

Cluelessfirstimer · 30/01/2024 20:58

Thank you. Great to hear there will be enough for him to do!

I have heard mixed things about accommodation... Will have a think on that and see what we end up doing

I went with my 3 year old last year. He loved it.
The skyline shows are aimed at younger kids. There’s a tots funfair and a toddler part to the pool.
stock up on 2ps for the arcade machines and your child will have a a blast

We did the silver apartments self catering the first year and the Shoreline hotel the second year We got what we paid for, self-catering accomodation was basic (clean when we went) but could be noisy, but the hotel with a meal plan was great and lots of food to choose from.

I'd say no. I tiook my 5 and 7 year old and the five year old didn't meet the height minimum for any rides other than the merry go round. The pool was super busy so had to watch them both like a hawk.

bakewellbride · 30/01/2024 21:08

We went last year and I was so nervous because I'd heard about the accommodation being crap but it was actually spotless and wonderful! All good. We stayed in the shoreline hotel. Downside- breakfast doesn't open until 8 and if your toddler is an early riser it can feel like an eternity away each morning!

My toddler loved it and eldest too. We will be returning this summer.

bakewellbride · 30/01/2024 21:11

Also the softplay has a toddler area which is great but it's near where they do some of the shows like brainiac so lots of booms and bangs to be heard. It depends on your child's personality type, might be a bit much for an anxious child but a more confident toddler will be ok. Mine was just annoyed she couldn't play in the big kid bit 😅(all Bognor)

We went when my boy was your age last year. He loved it! There was plenty to do and things we booked we ran outta time to do tbf! Swimming pools great, soft play is okish and there's outdoor play areas too so they won't be bored. I was horrified at the thought of bulins but actually had a really good time! There's a toddler ride area too!

Thereisnoname · 30/01/2024 21:20

Thats around the age we first went snd it was dine as people have said.
I would say get the best accommodation you can afford, we normally stay in the Wave Hotel but went once in a sliver apartment and it was very basic, it was clean but really felt tired and basic.
The hotel with Billy Bear is the Shoreline Hotel.

We go every February half term and love it. Go again in ten days time. Never been filthy, kids can get on the rides that are meant for little ones, there is a separate area for them. The shows are great fun. It's all about the kids for us.

Thank you all so much! Definitely booking it now after all your comments and quite excited to go with him now
