Places to visit near Morzine in summer

Just booked a week in Morzine for the summer and would like to extend the holiday and see a few nearby places. We have two kids age 11 and 9. We will likely be flying into Geneva or possibly Lyon and will rent a car.

Annecy is definitely on the list but any other suggestions?

Is Lake Geneva worth a visit and if so any particular town/area?

It was a good few years back now, 2009 I think but we had a day trip from Morzine to Thonon Les Bains, caught the coach which took about an hour. Not the most amazing place ever, but some nice architecture in the centre, also the part down near LG was pretty, lots of bars and cafes overlooking the water.

Another thought could be Chamonix, probably 90 mins drive at a guess? You could get a cable car either up the Brevent side opposite Mt Blanc, or if you’re feeling brave (and rich!) the Aguille du midi. Scariest cable car on earth though!!

Chamonix, go over the border into Switzerland and go to Chillon, Montreux, Lausanne, Bern, Chateau d'Oex

Thank you, will have a look. Kids would love the scary cable car!!

We did a week in Morzine in the summer once with teens and it was fabulous. Loads of outdoor sports to do, mountain biking (take the bike up hooked on the back of the chairlift and cycle down) kayaking, swimming and so forth. They really gear up for summer to offset the ski season.

Just to add the pool in Avoriaz is really good and was pretty reasonable price wise. Sort of indoor mini water park idea with stunning views, it’s called Aquariaz and our kids loved it.

Ooh thanks, that sounds good.

Slightly terrified about the mountain biking - I have one cautious but rather uncoordinated child and one who is coordinated but very gung ho 😬

Hi @minipie I know this is an old thread but how was your week in Morzine?

We’re booked for next summer. DS will be booked onto mountain biking courses so that leaves me, DH and DD who aren’t remotely skilled or keen enough to throw ourselves down mountains. Hoping there are lots of other activities we can enjoy.

Hello! It was great - kids loved it. Looking at booking again next summer, maybe a different resort as MTB is not our thing and Morzine is very MTB heavy.

There is SO much to do. We were there for 2.5 weeks- we went rafting (great fun), did a Go Ape type course, parapente (expensive but memorable), visited the goat village (DC loved!), mini golf, hired e bikes, swam in the pool and Lake Montriond, went ice skating. I especially enjoyed taking a lift up the mountain, doing a mostly downhill walk and then having lunch with a view at a mountain restaurant.

Definitely get the multi pass, if you get it via your accommodation it costs €3 / day and gives you free access to a whole load of stuff.

Lmk if you want any more specific recommendations

Thank you so much for your update, it sounds like there’s plenty to do for the week. I might suggest DD bring a friend along to keep her company.

We’re only going for the MTB for DS. Honestly, it utterly terrifies me to even watch.
