Where are you looking? You'll get somewhere in the UK but not abroad.

  • Ferry and travel cost £300.-

Food, we usually use our food budget for the week plus working out attracions & visits beforehand.

Private room at a youth hostel. Eg Okehampton, Devon - room that will sleep 6 with an ensuite bathroom and including a double bed plus bunks - £684 for a random week i picked at the end of July to early Aug.

I looked at Okehampton because I remember it being a special activity hostel with lots of options like bikes to hire etc but I'll admit I haven't looked at the details further.

Can you find the codes for the sun holidays. We have been to several and should be in budget. We went last to Lake Garda was about £30 a night for 5 of us (£300 for 10 days). We drove (about £650) and food was self catering. Was absolutely brilliant

Adventure Okehampton was what I was thinking about. Costs a bit more on top of the accommodation to book eg an activity weekend, but still within budget. Children need to be over 5.

They're not valid in school holidays.

Can you borrow camping kit?

Thanks everyone. Hadn't thought of eurocamp will have a look at that too. Children are 8 and up. Im after activities to keep them occupied.

They would happily go to Butlins as they absolutely love it, but I would like to try and get somewhere different.

I would camp. We love camping. Can you get a ferry to France and camp there? When I was a child we camped as a road trip and went all the way to Barcelona and saw Salvador Dali’s house. Such a great memory but not sure how that distance would impact budget.

Well, last year I was ready to push my sister out of the car half way up the m5… and I was driving at the time. So Spain is probably a bit too far.

We used Canvas holidays for a campsite in France. We went at the end of the season which was cheaper. Drove and used Tesco vouchers for Le Shuttle. It was brilliant!

That's not true! I have booked for August, but there is limited availability on some parks. You just have to look around a lot.

TheStormynight · 03/02/2024 06:11

Look at sites that Euro camp or canvas use then see if you can book direct instead as usually cheaper you maybe able to get a cabin or some form of camping pod but need your camping inside kit. Cuts down the need to take the actual tent & easier if weather mixed.,
