Darling husband has booked a suprise trip to Disney Florida at Easter.
What do I need to know before I go?
All tips welcome. Husband has already booked all the restaurants for our stay.
Children are very excited. Ages10 and 14.

Visa’s!
There are a few FB groups with lots of information on there from recent travelers so look there first.

Sunflower8848 · 28/01/2024 09:05

ESTA you mean?

DogsAreBetterThanHusbands · 28/01/2024 09:13

Easter will be really busy. Make sure you buy Genie Plus, I think it can sell out so log on a midnight (when it goes on sale to buy it). It's expensive but worth it. Also research each park in advance to see what what rides you want to do and which ones go quickly with Genie plus. Eg if in Epcot, Frozen & Ratatouille slots go really quickly, so book one of those first, then get there for park opening so you can walk straight to the other one.

The dibb website will have all the information, and answer any questions that you have. One of the most important things is not to try to do everything and to take plenty of breaks maybe plan a couple of days where you do not go to the parks
Disney is a fantastic place but is also extremely tiring

Join the main Facebook pages for planning. You’ll get a tonne of information on there.

Honestly I'd say universal is better for teens, and volcanoe bay is a lot of fun.

I'd but the refillable drinks, that saves a lot of money.

wonderstuff · 28/01/2024 21:02

No refillable cups in Disney parks.
The Dibb is the forum for all things Disney.
i subscribed to Touring Plans last time we went and really thought that was worthwhile, they have a nice app.

Don’t try to do it all, it’s an enormous place, very easy to ‘over-Disney’ have time set aside for time by the pool.

it will be busy but the weather will be perfect. Plenty of sunscreen and comfortable shoes are the most important I think.

wonderstuff · 28/01/2024 21:03

We liked watching lots of YouTube, Adam Hatton and Cheer Ears are good British Disney vloggers, DFB has lots of good stuff as well.

Get yourself over to TheDibb pronto!

Food is very expensive, first time we were shocked, I would look at menus so you’re prepared, remember 15-20% tip is expected at table service restaurants. If you’re staying off site there are much better value places away from Disney. Disney Springs has some good options too.

MrsWhites · 28/01/2024 21:30

Snacks - take little things with you, crisps, biscuits etc. Snacks and drinks are super expensive, think $5-7 for popcorn or a little tub of crackers. Ice lolly’s similar so if you can keep costs down by taking little bits and pieces it saves a fortune.

As above - drinks, take water bottles with you so you can fill up with iced water which restaurants/quick service will give you for free. We take those mini Robinson Squeezy juice for those who don’t like plain water. A 500ml bottle of coke etc is $5 in the parks. If you are staying on Disney property definitely get a refillable mug, they are about $22 but you can use them as much as you want at your resort.

We also get an Uber to a Walmart to pick up drinks, snacks etc.

Cooling towels/portable fans, get them before you go, they are very expensive there. Like $30 for a fan kind of expensive!

Make the effort to get up and get to the parks early, especially if you are staying on site and you get early entry. You can get so much done and then have a break during the afternoon when it gets really hot.

If you are thinking of using genie+ I would prioritise magic kingdom and Hollywood studios with this - I don’t think it’s worth the money at Epcot and animal kingdom because they don’t have as many rides, especially if you can use early entry.

Work out which rides get busiest and speed walk to those as soon as they open the parks, if you miss this time then wait until later in the day. You can get in a queue until a minute before park closing time, ride times will still post long queue times to put you off but you will find them much lower than advertised.

As you can probably tell, we go every year pretty much so ask away if you need anymore tips!

Get your ESTAs done pronto. (Visa waiver). You won't get into the country without them. They cost around $21 ( I think).

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 28/01/2024 21:47

Please say you’ve already got ESTAs. If any one of you gets rejected for any reason you’re looking at months to wait for a Visa and you definitely won’t be going at Easter. I’d get ESTAs done and dusted before I even booked anything.

You don't need to pay for an ESTA. You simply go to the US Gov website and do it that way. Don't pay a third party.

You do need to pay for an ESTA. That is the cost via the US Gov website. You are correct that there are third party websites which charge even more.

Rumpoleoftheballet · 28/01/2024 22:06

Apologies, I got it wrong. Just asked DH and he said we did pay...

I think you meant only go through the US ESTA website as there are other sites that do it for you but charge more!

Get on YouTube as a family and look for your Must Do's and plan around those.

Don't try to do it all - it won't happen.

Make sure you do a rope drop and close down.

Discovery Cove was amazing. Such a lovely rest day in the middle.

Be prepared to want to go back again.

It'll be BUSY.

Make your plans but don't overdo it. Just enjoy being immersed in the theming and enjoy it.
