Feb few days away.
I know nothing about the place yet.

Any suggestions for a place to stay- or things to do?

It’s not the nicest place - bombed mercilessly in WW2. But there are some lovely places really nearby. Do you have to stay in Caen or do you have a car where you can stay somewhere else.

Is the ferry booked already?

If you've booked the ferry already but not somewhere to stay, I would suggest Bayeux as an alternative. It's a really beautiful town with plenty to do. It's easy to get to from Caen so worth a day trip anyway if you're already committed to staying in Caen. Can't be much more than 30 minutes on the train, probably less than that.

Plenty to do here if you look for it. You will need a car. Things to see include Mont St Michel, The Bayeux Tapestry, D Day beaches, museums and batteries. William the Conqueror came from this part of the world, and it was critical in WW2. There is a thousand years of history in between. Within an hour’s drive are attractive seaside towns with Honfleur in one direction and St Malo in the other direction (if you have not already bought your ferry crossing, go one way to/from St Malo and the other way via Caen.) The WW2 sites are incredible and sobering. The local cuisine is worth exploring. Walnuts, cheese and most famously Perry and calvados are from here. The fishing villages serve amazing seafood platters. I have had several short breaks in this part of France and thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

Thanks! Bayeux does look interesting (even in Feb)

We don't have to stay in Caen.
Have Euro tunnel crossing -and a car but are not sure where would be good in winter.

Bruges! It's about an hour and a half from the Euro Tunnel by car and is perfect in winter.

Thank you all!
