SIM card for Canada (BC specifically)

Can anyone advise ..we are going to be skiing and I think need Teleus (?) coverage but I can't find a way to buy a SIM card on this side of the pond. I am hoping we can buy a SIM at Vancouver Airport while waiting to travel onwards to Kelowna...but I don't want to be out of contact/paying enormous roaming fees because our boys are on a school ski trip in Europe!

Are the 'universal' SIMs you can buy off Amazon going to work?

Just buy at Vancouver airport. It has (slightly unreliable) wifi so you'll have that when you land. Canadian mobile fees are ridiculous though. Even when you aren't roaming. And be careful if you do get roaming fees they might be incorrect. Because the US puts their towers by the sea and Canada inland so it thinks you're in the US when you're on the beach. I found that out the hard way.

Can your phone use eSIMS? I bought one online from Airalo when I went to the US and it worked brilliantly. Looks like they do the network you mentioned in Canada too. I have a referral code which will give you $3 off (in the link)

Thanks both.

I think my phone can use an e-SIM but DH said something about them not working where we are going (he's done research...!). I will have another look at it though because it seems the easiest solution....

I used Airalo e-sim all through the Rockies in Alberta and partially in BC and had no issues with coverage. We had 3 phones with them, I used it mostly for maps, ds for YouTube and another phone for social media.

Thanks, that's good to know. I think I will get an E SIM through Airalo before we go and hopefully it will work. I don't know why DH thought it wouldn't but he was adamant we'd have to buy physical ones ...

I visited the Rockies last year. Got an e-sim through Airalo. All very straightforward. Have a great trip 😊

I used an ESIM through Nomad in December. Worked great.
