How much?

How much have you paid for a short haul holiday for a family of four recently? I'm so out of touch with prices and just trying to work out if we can afford anything. Tied to school holidays unfortunately! Open to anything, based in UK (south west).

There is a massive range of possibilities here from ferry to a French campsite to all inclusive in a 5* resort.
I’ll bite though, we had a week in Italy last year, roughly 1k flights, 1k vrbo accommodation and 1k for food/travel/entry fees. So 3k and we saw lots of sights and ate out most days but were able to cook some days as we had a full kitchen.

Eurocamp used to be cheap and cheerful, not sure what the prices are like now though. Good clean campsites with a range of accommodation and plenty of activities for the kids.

Morrocco is cheap, warm and they do 4/5 star very well. For 3 of us at Easter in a 5star hotel with water park it’s £2.5k for 10 nights all inclusive. Cape Verde also very good, but not as cheap as Morrocco!

Thank you that is massively helpful! Looks like we are going to Iceland (the shop) again then 😂

Oh yes good shout! Might keep the kids quiet with activities and so on.

Sounds fab, will definitely consider, thank you x

About the same as huntingforchicken, 1k each for a week flights, accommodation and spends in Easter break. We have a boy and girl a bit older though so that's a 3 bed place. Deliberately do Easter to keep cost down. Last year spain, this year portugal. Lots of outings and 1 meal a day out.

Lots of Huttopia ( like eurocamp ) sites in France, also Odalys.

French schools go back mid August so can be cheaper to go there then. If you can find a campsite that will do a package of caravan accommodation and ferry it halves the cost of the ferry.

stringbean · 26/01/2024 09:46

French schools universally start back on September 1st - or the following Monday if it falls on a weekend - so popular campsites can still be busy up to the end of August. The prices do drop in the last week of August though.

try centre parcs in Europe, if their school holidays don't align to ours you can sometimes get a decent deal
