SOLO UK break with 2 and 6 year old

Looking for ideas of places I could take my children just to break up the monotony of school holidays. So I am not expecting to relax myself (although bonus points if that is possible of course!). Where has lots of day trips that isn't too far from London.

For example, stay in Birmingham and go to the science museum, cadbury world etc...

I keep getting bogged down in research so if anyone has successfully done this I'd be happy to copy your itinerary exactly! Ideally I'd like an average hotel (not Wooley Grange level) and a pool isn't a necessity as I don't really enjoy swimming with both of them on my own. But if there is one that's fine too.

Interconnecting rooms would be perfect. Thank you

A hotel room wouldn't allow you to sleep in two rooms. I'd recommend a caravan, gives you living room when they're sleeping. Unless you want a city break.

ok, thanks. I guess I can bunk up with them. I'm keen to avoid much cooking hence the hunt for a hotel!

Butlins is made for that age group, jump on a train to Bognor, 10 min taxi to the camp. Stay in a Hotel, Shoreline I think is the one made for little one.

The hotel rooms will have a master bedroom and a children's one. Let them enjoy the rides and the shows, use the restaurants with a meal plan so you don't have to cook.

You can even put them in a supervised playgroup so you can have a morning to yourself if needed.

Once they are both over 5 I'd attempt a city break and once both over 8 / can swim competently an oversea hot, sit by the pool holiday

Thank you so much for the idea @Singleandproud - we do that kind of holiday with other family. I am more interested to find a hotel with good museums, day trips, attractions, national trust near by. And not to spend a fortune on the hotel (could go up to £200/night max)

New Forest. You can get to loads of places from there, including Peppa Pig World.

Ok, train to Norwich.
Premier Inn directly outside the train station next to the river that runs through the city
Day 1: Norwich visit the castle, old shopping streets perhaps a play at the theatre
Day 2 Train to Sheringham and then swap onto the Steam Train and go along the North Norfolk coast, you can get off along the way,
Day 3 Train to Great Yarmouth, 15 min walk from train station to beach several museums, Sea Life centre Hippodrome Circus, arcades, Joyland and chips on the sand
Day 4: I don't know how you would get to Bewilderwood on public transport but I'd explore that as a option
Day 5: Cromer museum, go crabbing and fossil hunting
Day 6 National Trust Blickling Hall/ Felbrigg/ Gressenhall Farm and workhouse

If you are driving then that hotel is good for being central andis cheap but other places on the outskirts like Dunston Hall or Sprowston manor might be an option too.
If you don't mind all tucking in together in a big bed Norwich Assembly rooms is £180 a night most nights andis lovely

Weymouth has quite a lot that small kids would enjoy. There is the sea life centre, sand sculptures, mini golf and of course a nice sandy beach.
Its accessible by train if you dont want to drive. With small kids I'd probably stay in a caravan park (Bowleaze cove is nice and has a pool, restaurant and soft play). Better than a hotel room as can put them to bed and then have your own space.
For hotels check out Moonfleet Manor if you're driving and can stay outside of school hols - I stayed there with 2 kids for £140 a night by making the most of inset days. They have a few 'cosy' rooms which fit 3 and are significantly cheaper than most of their other rooms. The hotel is lovely and perfect for little ones, but I'd never pay the prices they are asking for in school hols!

York is great for kids that age, loads to see and do and only around 2 hours on the train from London.
