Austria Easter with young kid?

Do you think it is a good idea to spend a few days during Easter (spring school holiday) in the Alps with a 3.5yo as a family who don't ski?

I am looking at some family friendly hotels in Austria, maybe some kinderholtel in Zell am see.

We probably won't ski but instead have some fun walking around, or do some snowshoeing or sledging if available (used to enjoy those activities before DS, in Switzerland though). DS is quite into trains, cable cars, recently becomes interested in mountains so think he'll love it.

But we've never taken DS to anything other than beach side AI resorts. So not quite sure if that will work out.

Any experience would be appreciated. And I'm open to suggestions too.

TIA

Do it. We’ve tended to take DS to places we would like anyway, then adapt for him (so have never done AI).

We’ve taken DS to Saas-Fee a few times. He skis but has also had a great time doing the things you mention. Somewhere with a pool on site is handy.

Zell am See would be a good choice. There are cable cars, a mountain roller-coaster at Kaprun, a narrow gauge railway that chugs along the valley (it has steam engines in the summer too, but I don't think they run at Easter), a big boat that sails around the lake, a big mountain (Kitzsteinhorn) at Kaprun and lots of smaller mountains all around. Easter is quite early this year, so even if the snow is getting sparse in the valley by the lake, there will be snow at the top of the cable cars, and there is snow all year round at Kitzsteinhorn.

If you fly into Salzburg you can either take the train to Zell am See from the city centre, or the #260 Postbus that leaves from outside the arrivals hall.

A Kinderhotel will usually have a pool and all sorts of activities organised for kids.

Yes, it's a good place to do that. Sometimes you will still get snow on the ground but not to the depth that comes through winter, and you should get some sun even if it is cold.
The cable car lifts etc. will still be working and there are mountain cafes/bars that will have child friendly food options.
If I am right, there is at least one petting zoo (Streichelzoo) not too far away, and it had ponies that could also pull a cart that had parts shaped quite like a sleigh. Potentially it could change wheels for runners, in snow.

Your DS is old enough to ski so you could stick him in a ski school for Tots so you can go on some walks
